Just a quicky should the coil have liquid in it cause got one with and one without.

liquid? do you mean oil? as the old can type coils were oil filled but you should never see the oil as it is sealed.

If its oil filled, you should keep it upright ideally. Or it will burn out very quickly. You can buy resin filled coil packs, which are fine in any position :)

does this apply with all coils then or just mk1/mk2? mk2f be ok sideways?

It is only coils in a cylindrical container that contain oil, the idea being that it conducts heat from inside the coil to the case. If the seal between the plastic and the metal case should fail, oil will be lost and the life of the coil drastically reduced. In theory, you should be able to mount them in any position (as many manufacturers did) but in the vertical position, with the terminals at the top, even if the seal should fail, the oil will stay in the case.
