i recently got round to getting my mk4 mot etc and dug out the log book, on the front of the book it sais "this document is not proof of ownership it just shows who's responsible for registering and taxing vehicle?

but on the inside it where number 5 it sais registered keeper it has my name?

It's the new V5 form which I think what you're talking about.

What it's saying is that the form does not prove that you own the vehicle if say someone takes the v5 and tries claiming it's their vehicle etc / trying to sell it on/clone it etc. It was changed late last year due to the old one being misleading in ownership and people being able to fraud them or something.

It's not saying you're not the registered keeper of the car, just saying you can't use the document for official proof that you're the owner, as anyone could take it and say "yeah i'm the registered keeper".

Basically, don't worry about it. That's your v5/logbook that you need when taxing the vehicle, reporting any changes of address / changes to the car i.e engine/colour and selling/scrapping/exporting the vehicle

Basically, yeah, a v5 shows who's responsible for the vehicle, as opposed who actually owns it (which isn't recorded). Sometimes a vehicle can be owned by someone other than the registerred keeper, eg a lease car, or a car someone owns (mine and my bro's xr3i) that is kept and insured by our dad.

The dvla own your vehicle, if you sign the log book. Which basically gives them the right to take it away if you misuse the keeping of it. Which is on their terms.
