Well, I sold my GT to move onto pastures new. I wanted something that was better suited to doing long distances in comfort, and had a bit more go so I bought this...

It was originally a 1989 First gen Corrado 1.8 16v, in alpine white, sunroof etc...

Then the person who bought it new requested it go to GTi Engineering at Silverstone to have one of their conversions carried out....

It had the top of the line RE2000 conversion carried out on it which consisted of-

Steel crankshaft of 92.8mm stroke,

Cylinder block specially machined with 82.5mm bore,

Lead-Indium heavy duty crankshaft bearings,

Alloy pistons with valve clearance cut-outs,

Gasflowed cylinder head,

Re-profiled inlet and exhaust valve throats,

Gasflowed inlet and exhaust manifold,

Selected valve springs,

Modified distributor,

Modified camshaft timing,

Modified injection system.

This took it to 2 litres, gave it 170bhp and 158lb/ft of torque. It also had the heated leather installed at this time as well.

It now has 150,000 miles on it and is abit rusty in places, still goes alright though!

I've spent out a fair bit on bits that were missing, or not working when I bought it. The spoiler didnt work properly, the MFA had a mind of its own, the central locking was fubar, indicators didnt work properly, heater matrix had blown, lots of other little bits...

Anyway, the car is fitted with Weitec hicon GT coilovers, a supersprint exhaust system, K&N panel filter and thats about it!

I retrimmed the headlining and pillars myself with black suede, and just generally tidied up the car so far.

Time for some pictures, the wheels are not staying this colour, and it was abit high in these pictures as I had just put the wheels on!

Was confronted with this mess when I removed 2 alarms from the car!

I'll get some better pictures of it now, and the bay/interior etc later on.

Remember seeing this for sale and being tempted. Nice buy dude. White rados are cool. Onwards and upwards!! :-)

No, TSR did similar conversions and I believe the did a 2.1, the RE2000 was rated the best out of all the conversions though!

Was thinking of doing the wheels white, might do them a darker silver/grey though, I dunno!

Looks mean and i love it. I think the wheel shape and style suit it aswell i just don't think the colour works all that well.

Loads of different coloured greys to choose from. I don't think you would confuse them with steels though whatever colour you chose. The car just deserves something a little more tasteful but knowing you i'm sure that's what you will want too.

Does look the balls though. Orange wheels or not.

Just looking at buying one of these at the min insurance is cheaper than a Mk2 Golf Gti and there going rather cheap at the min.

Whats the fuel economy like on a eco drive?

Drivien a Mk2 Golf Gti how do they compare to one iff you have still as fun to drive and as grippy withthe extra weight to lug around ?

Better handling than MK2 I would say. I wouldn't know about speed wise as this has more power than a MK2 with a KR in it.

Economy isn't bad, slightly better than the more modern 20VT engines, on the motorway it will sit at 40mpg no problem, around town low to mid 30's, doesn't drop that much when you boot it (according to the MFA)

Chassis and underpinnings are all the same as a MK2 golf (if you get an 8v or 16v corrado). I would say they are a more refined MK2 golf personally, essentially the same car but came higher specced from the factory, and had a much nicer interior!

Try and get one with a KR in it if you're getting a 16v, 9a's aren't as fun to drive!

Ill get some more pics soon, still haven't painted the wheels! Got a few replacement parts recently, all new CV joints as the old ones I presume had never been changed judging by the state of them (150k miles old!), new in-tank and in-line fuel pumps, new front wheel bearings, new gearbox oil + engine oil + filter, refurbished the 42mm inlet manifold, ported the throttle body some more, drilled the cold side of the airbox and removed the flaps from inside, also replaced a few missing sensors from the engine

Running spot on at the moment, petrol gauge get's stuck at 1/4 tank and the temperature gauge sometimes doesn't work so I'll have to look into that at the weekend!
