So here's my new car! While I was looking for a mk2 16v, I took a bit of a different turn and ended up with this! Always wanted a white 6n2 and the 1.4 tdi engine has always appealed to me. It's actually a much better engine than I expected!!

So I went up to Edinburgh to pick this up from a nice couple. I'm usually very concerned with buying pre-modified cars, but everything has been done to a high standard with this so I'm happy. It is so clean and well looked after!

So this is how it was when I bought it:

First thing that really stuck out with the car was the exhaust - It was completely straight through, no silencers, no cat, nothing! Even the backbox is hollow-ed out! I've now got a standard system on, which isn't as in-your-face. Some people may like the sound of a straight through system, but in a 3 pot tdi, it's maybe not appropriate!

Next up was to break up the white at the front of the car - Decided I'd do this with a Gti grill:

Next up, something that's bugged me since I got the car - The interior door handle inserts were scratched to hell. I ordered some 3M carbon fibre wrap on eBay and got these wrapped up! The 3M wrap is a fantastic product! So easy to work with and looks great!

After closer inspection, the whole door handles aren't in amazing condition! I think carbon wrapping the whole thing would be a bit too much, so the plan is to do these in gloss black - haven't fully decided yet!

Another thing is the window tints.. I really can't decide whether to rip them off or not!

Oh, and I've just had a Toad cat 1 alarm system fitted - It is awesome! So nice to have RCL again..

So yeah, that's where I'm up to. I do want a change of wheels at some point but it might be a little while before that happens. I also need to look into getting the arches rolled - it's not even that low, but catches on the front when cornering hard!

Looks good mate!! I really wanted a tdi but they are like rocking horse shit to find! Good move with the exhaust, nothing shitter than a low power car with a racing exhaust!

you should wind the front coilys down a bit too :)

Wanted a tdi myself looks smooth mate, white is an awesome colour to have especially at he minute. Really like it mate.

Thanks guys! I shall be going lower once I can get the arches rolled :) They catch on hard cornering at the moment.

And yeah, decent tdi's are very hard to come by.. so when I found a really well looked after, white one I jumped straight on it!

Anyway, so today I've cracked on with the interior. Door cards off and stripped the electric window switches down, as the driver side control won't make the passenger side go down. Found plenty of corrosion on the contacts so cleaned all this up and it's sorted! I've also stripped off the full door handles, window switches and the tweeter covers. The plan is to spray the handles satin black, wrapping the window switches in carbon and... maybe wrapping the tweeter covers in carbon.. They're white at the moment and it doesn't look too good.

Then tomorrow I need to re-do the wiring for one of the tweeters. It's been very badly taped together!

I managed to find myself the perfect A3 - a 2.0T quattro in dolphin grey! What a power difference from the polo but I must say the running costs are also significantly higher!

I'll log on again soon and see what else you've been doing to it!!

Hi Lyndsey, great to hear from you! The A3 sounds good! Do you have plans for it or is it staying as is?

I absolutely love this little car! It's surprisingly comfy and the 75bhp wasn't as depressing as I expected! Just working through a list of bits and bobs to do, then the plan is to get it much lower and some new wheels in Spring :)

Btw, that exhaust was fitted well!! Took nearly a whole day to get it off

I dont know what I will do to it yet but new wheels are a must in about spring also, no point changing them just before winter. I really like BBS CYs but they will be just as difficult to look after as the cups were, will probably end up with LMs or something instead. What wheels were you thinking for the polo? I was always going to fit Borbet A's until I seen the cups.

I managed to get the s line model which is 30mm lower than the standard model but I will definitely be investing in some coilovers next year as its still too high!

Mark thinks I should get it remapped but I'm not overly fussed for that right away so maybe in a year or so as I'd prefer to concentrate on the styling. There's alot to think about!

Haha I suppose that is a good thing? The standard exhaust actually fell apart soon after fitting the coilovers to the car which is why it was replaced, then the cat convertor failed and it was easier to remove it rather than replace it (and it still passed the MOT as low emissions..) so it ended up pretty loud, I didnt like it at first but got used to it and quite liked the fact that you could no longer hear the 'tractor' engine.

But yeah it is nippier than you first think, it would be pretty depressing without that little turbo! Would you think about a remap for it? You would get even better fuel economy, can you imagine? haha
