Hey. Thought I'd start a thread about my 6n. Had it a year now but haven't really bothered with it due to money and lack of interest but after bugjam and getting a better job thought I'd put some money, time and effort in. I put some pictures up of it when I first got the car but that was about it.

Heres a bit of a spec:

-Engine: 1.4 8v cl completely standard.

-Body: 5 door Dragon green

-Chasis: 40mm lowering springs with standard shocks (on the ar when I got it), standard brakes, 13" steels, baloon tyres

-Exterior:Black Badges, satin black grille rail, de-bump stripped, clear indicators, 6n rear clusters sprayed red (Curtosey of Spade)

As I said the car needed some tlc. The front passenger wind was in a bad state after th winter so I've just spent this monring swapping it for a mint condition one.

Encountered some pretty bad rust taking the bumper off. Mostly surface rust but I will bee purchasing a new one of these within the near future just to be on the safe side.

Good as new. Took a lot longer to get that bumper off than was anticipated but oh well.

I have a few plans for the car but going to try keep it a nice clean example really. I'm going to get some PhilJ Coilies soon, A friend has some BBS's on his golf in bad condition that I'm going to put in a shoddy offer for. Waiting for a new stereo to arrive as mine packed up. Thats it really. Lik I said, just try and keep it in good shape.

If anyone can suggest a good way of polishing my rocker cover up a bit then that'd be appreciated.

Just taken delivery of a badgeless grille through the post so will get that on later on this afternoon.

Just a little bit of an update. I recieved some bits and bobs through the post this week and fitted them this evening. First up was a new headunit as my old one was beyond knackered. Its the Pioneer DEH-1320MP.

Really happy with it, the 50w amp works with the new component speakers I bought as well. Really good crisp sound with no distortion at all.

Got some Pioneer 17cm compnents of ebay for £21.95.The speakers went in no problems. Again right happy with them.

Fianlly got a de-badged grille as my old grille wouldn't stay in as all the clips were broke.

Was thinking a bonnet bra would suit the front end now as well as hiding a bad dent on the front drivers side corner of the bonnet. Any thoughts on this???

Again if anyone knows how I can polish up my rocker cover it'd be appreciated

For those interested........by the looks of it not many but anyway. Managed to work out how to polish rocker cover so did it and just gave it a good clean and t-cut and polish then decided to take a couple of pictures.

^^^ Arch gap central!!! Looks a lot worse in the photo than bear metal. End of this month it'll be going lower. Hopefully around 70 up front and 60 at the rear.

I used WD40 to get the grimey oil off, then used the fine sanding blocks you can get from halfrauds and then used some metal polish that I found under the kitchen sink. Needs doing again a few times to get it shining but it worked well.

Get down your local body shop suppliers, get 400, 600, 800, 1200, 1500, 2000 grit wet and dry paper. Then go over it with meguiars or similar metal polish.

Will come up like a mirror matey. While it is polished....the reason it is so dull is due to the grit levels being too fine to strip the surface down to a smooth scratch/imperfection free surface therefore the light is bouncing off the metal at different angles creating the blurred finish!

400-1200 will probably cost around 25p a sheet and 1500 - 2000 around 30p. Get about 6 sheets of 400, 5 of 600, 4 of 800, 3 of 1200, 1500 and 2000. That will cost you under £7 and the metal polish will then cost about £8.99. Remember keep the paper saturated with water to stop the sandpaper clogging. And the only time you move onto a finer grit is when you sand one way, then you sand the opposite direction and it removes the scratches!

Do this for all the grits listed above and you'll be able to see your face in that rocker cover!

Well its not exposed to moisture so no pitting will occur, providing that you polish it often, cant see why it wont last as long as the engine!

Thought I'd revive my old thread with a few updates. No pictures as of yet (possibly some tonight or tomorrow night). Firstly I'm part way through modding a 6n back box which will be going on in the new year, as well as a centre section. Secondly I have finally sourced some coilovers from a friend. I think they are G-MAX. Then the rest is just body work updates as I have a little accident in the wet about a month ago. Needs a new

-Headlight (Mines held in with screws at the mo)

-Drivers wing (current one is half black due to rust)

-Hopefully a new front and rear bumper. (Thinkin of sticking with 8v...........Any thoughts?)

Just type in light-tinting spray on ebay mate. I have a tin lying about in the garage. Think the brand is E-TECH

Dude cant really remember what I did. It was literally just a straight sway without having to drill any holes. The exisiting speaker wires are adequate enough. I just used some solder and they worked - Providing your dash tweeters are still hooked up. Cheers dude

Not updated this in ages but theres been a few changes. The winter was bad where I am so the car took a beating, mainly the shitty drivers wing which is now chalkboard black (only paint I had). Engine has had a full service, new plugs, HT leads, oil, oil filter, fuel filter as well as a K&N with 3" cool air food.

Had a bump too, completelty my fault, got blinded by the sun, looked to get my sunglasses n when I looked back I slammed on n hit the back of a SAAB. No damage to hers, but the head light and bumper are wrecked on mine. So need new ones. I also have a bonnet bra now and coilovers on order. Pictures will follow early next week!

So as I said thought I'd post a few pictures up of how it stands. The coilovers only went on this morning so still need time to settle. There only budget TA Technix but they do the job I want them to do (rough ride though)

Everyone knows what coilies look like but still, thought Id post a pic up, got them for £40 brand new! Not a bad price!

There wound right down, front and back, but still have helpers in. I'm going to wait untill I can purchase and take delivery of some brand new G60 steels before taking the helper springs out.

Further plans:

- Interior re-vamp

- Tint headlamps

- Continue sorting body work out

- Potentially an engine rebuild with bike carbs (Start my basic training for the Commando Engineers in August so this may be a long running plan)
