Hi guys anyone know of a cheap car bodyshop or can anyone do a decent job themselves?

I do body repair and refinishing and belive me there no such thing as a "good cheap job" lol you pay peanuts you get moneys that's what me owl boy says Were I live theres loads of boys doing full resprays for £650 £400 and even £250 and none were good bad was an under statement lol

lot of cash, ohwell well see how my saving goes and then make a decision from there

I would to help buddy but am in Ireland I mainly do custom body work and custom painting I use 2 and use make fibre glass body kits for drift cars have doing it for over 8 years 1200 to 1500 you would expect for a perfect respray with a mirror finish

Most of the time is preperation when working on body work, so thats where your money goes. You could prepare the car yourself and save a wedge. As long as you keep things clean dust free, it wouldnt be hard to get it rubbed back and primed. Then all you'd need to pay for was final prep and top coat. then If your prepared to finish the car with flat and mop yourself, you could make further savings. However, I'm not sure how many garages would be prepared to allow this as;

a. they are losing trade/money. A busy body shop may be more likely to allow this

b. If you make a shite job of it, they are associated with that car

Providing your own materials may also reduce costs further.

Well anyone whose seen my car can either vouch or not for this but my full external respray, including some smoothing and rust deletion cost me 600, no its not mint and there are one or two things that when you get up close and personal that I'm not happy about but its still not bad.

Sadly you get what you pay 4 buddy but in many case I seen people pay top dollar for such brutal work people can be easily tick into making bad deceistions it's has always be to see work frist hand form the body shop your thinking of chosen it (PAYS) to do you home work

Well said mate and another thing with cheap jobs can be when you go and pick your car up it will prob will a brill job and you will be all smiles until a fews weeks later the filler starts to sink and your car looks like fuck all you will be kicking your self wishing you had of waited and saved a little longer for the real deal

No 1 is going to do a £500 job to the standard of a £1500 job

(But there will be alot of people who will do a £1500 job to the standard of a £500 job)

Remember money is hard to come by these day so don't get caught out and ALWAYS do your home work

best get begging to see if anyone can let you use a compressor and a barn for the weekend , blast over with some rustoleum or something is about as cheap as it gets

as said 500-600 wont get you much

I'm in Donegal been thinkin about a respray using new bonnet and maybe 16V bumbers, Any idea of what you would charge making your own parts plus respray? And where abouts in Ireland are you?

I've got a mate with a bodyshop which i help out sometimes on the weekends. We get alot of quick jobs we do for cheap but he still takes pride in everyjob . and could find u a preety cheap price . PM me . ( I'm in Stafford btw ) Near stoke lol.

I Resprayed my polo with a mate ( I'm a panel beater by trade and he is a painter ) and i was extremely fussy, was painted in our shop with about 100hours put into it.

Cost me £80 for Base Coat -

BOOM.

200 Labour. 170 Paint. Done.

I'm happy with it, yeah. For the cost, and considering I've never done any body work beforehand, it's okay. Nowhere near perfect, i know.

Is there anyway to get the door back though? Theres a bit that's a little orangey that could do with a polish. You're a painter, that doesn't count! :)

p2000 wet and dry, soaked in warm soapy water over night, on a rubber block.

Rub the paint until it is flat.

Polish back up using a rotary buffer.

I use 3m Fast Cut on a Green Head, then refined with 3m Fine Cut on a Yellow head, then finished with 3m Anti Hologram on a blue head.

Waxed with either DoDo Juice Supernatural or Autoglyms HD Wax.

If you fuck any of that up, the onus is on yourself by the way.

Google - WET SANDING.

I don't have a buffer, so I'd prolly be better going to someone with a bodyshop and getting it done there! :) Cheers for the help though.

I've heard of this DoDo Juice before though; I'll get the panels finished first though.

And I'm no American; if i fuck it up, i fuck it up.

yeah i know, but your Scottish haha.

Dodo Supernatural is really good, i think I'm prefering Autoglyms HD wax at the moment though.
