1.4 16v Polo 6N

I was thinking the other day about removing the BMC filter from my oil catch can.

I mean when oily air shoots into the catch can, its at 45 degree angle downwards.

So incase people are worried about back pressure caused by the breather, then why not remove it completley and just have the outlet bare.

I mean oil won't splash out from the OUTlet plug, if there was any oil drops they would hit the floor as they enter the INLET.

And people do say thier filters colour stays more or less the same over the years then by removing it surely you will have no back pressure worries and a clean engine bay.

I'm suprised no ones wrote about this consideration.

It'll make your engine bay dirty and the cabin smell (the filter isn't great at stopping the smell if it's still in the bay).

Reason is because of tiny oil deposits/particles that stay in the air. Its like a greasy air, not clean air and liquid oil entirely seperated in the tank.

Thanks for this. I think I will just have to keep cleaning the engine bay once a month. These filter reduce the amount of air coming out.

Fit a pipe to the other end and duty it out under the car. Its how mines been plumbed for years and I don't get anything dripping out but my catch tank also has a good flow of cold air passing it. so 90% of the oil in it probably condenses.

I was thinking this but then I thought should not we be cleaning up our own mess instead of depositing it on to the road.

I hope I don't get sick of cleaning the engine bay.
