I think i have done the impossible and havee actually fitted a rado rear bench into my mk3 polo!!!!

if eny one would like to know how its done its a HUGE job.

i have already completed the job so unfortunatly it would be a bad build thread but ill try.

Things you need:

sub frame from rado for the bench

standard polo back of the seat (i.e metal bit where you want to have head rests)

and obv the rear rado bench

First step:

Strip both down to bare bones, foam off the back of the standard and rado seats: BE CAREFULL NOT TO TEAR THE RADO FOAM!!

2nd step:

Place the rado seats into place on the back rest u will have to leave a slight gap on bot sides of the rear bench. The material will fold over and you will notice be able to slot the plast trim around the material into the gap that is present as there are metal sort of spike on the inners that will hold them in place.

That is it for the back rest. (picks will follow soon)

NOW THE MASSIVE PART. if you dont have the donor part from the rado you have about 4 hours worth of getting it ouit as i wouldnt go gun for leather with a angle grinder.

:

First step for base removal from rado for the person without the donor parts :

Drill out all of the spot welds n i mean all wont come out other wise. Once drilled out you will need a blade type chisel to seperate the metal part you need from the base. follow the line going around the front of the metal part then from the back side of it (will take a while to do)

Second Step:

You will have to manouver the metal donor part into place without bending frame as it will go tits up if u bend the frame one in place VERY VERY VERY carefully drill into the rear foot well to pop rivet the base into place once that is done (Sounds EASY IT IS NOT!!)

Finally :

ONCE all of the above is done place the rear base into place and screw the center arm rest nito place

JOB DONE

do you mean replace the whole rear floor with a raddo floor or take the brackets out of a raddo

It's not the floor you replace, the raddo is like the golf and has a raised bit around the front that creates a crevice under the seat, the raddo seat actually site in this so you need to recreate this crevice in the polo. Removing the front part of it from a raddo (or any other golf variant of that generation) is going to be a lot easier than trying to make it from scratch.

Few pics, these are not the most detailed but its just drilling out spot welds and using a hammer and chisel to finish the job

Removal of the section needed from the corrado/golf/jetta was hardly a massive job and would only take over 4 hours if you were trying to do it with a toffee hammer and a tea spoon

Took us (well mostly kiz) a couple of hours of casual labour

Hello, I do realise this is a old thread but i would love some info and pics of how this turned out since its the only project on the interwebs remotely talking about success... So please any pics would be greately appreciated cos I'm considering doing this to my coup.

P.s. is the rado bench comfy? it looks the part but some people said that they are not for using, just for looking :p

What are the problems with swapping the bases over then?

corrado seats are just the wrong shape Max, you need the raised bit so they slope - its like a bucket seat so without it the seat would be trying to tip you out

Got a subframe and two interiors now. I'm eager to get stuck in with this (once I fix my leaks) soooo more pics PLEASE! Haha

I understand the bench part needing the Corrado seat part but cant get my head around the seat back rest (the upright part) Is this a straight fit? Anyone shed some light?
