Alright guys,

Soon i will be machining up a small batch of adjustable vernier pulley's for me and a few friends,

After getting the go-ahead from the moderators (cheers guy's) :-D , i thought i may aswell see if any one on here would be interested in one.

I would require your original pulley so the plate can be matched to it for a perfect fit,

For your original pulley to be converted to a vernier (by fitting a adjustable plate) , i would be wanting £65, this includes return postage.

At this price you would receive the pulley and adjustable plate assembled in its standard finish, but for a bit extra i may moderately polish the adjustable plate, and paint the original pulley.

Who would be interested in one?

With separate inlet and exhaust cams, verniers can still give more power even if the cams are standard :unibrow:

i may be interested in a pair (AFH)

but I'm going to await some pics first if thats ok as 16v ones for AFH can be gotten for a little over £200 but if your product is good/competitive then I'm sure you'll get plenty of interest, myself included, especially at those prices.

I'm on holiday for a week but ill check back on this when i get back.

Even with a standard camshaft a vernier is very useful, and if you are using a high lift camshaft, you can still use a static cam pulley, but the improvement you get from it will just be from the extra lift, duration and overlap the camshaft offers.

A vernier pulley just alows you to bias the power delivery the camshaft gives, basically changing the characteristics of the engine. Meaning that even with a standard camshaft, you can get some good gains by using one of these.

Advancing the camshaft means the inlet (and exhaust) valves open earlier, obviously. Meaning that you get better cylinder filling at low to medium engine speed with there being a bigger window for the inlet of fuel/air (with a highlift, long duration camshaft). Retarding the camshaft being the complete opposite.

Hi Max, just out of interest, say your vernier pulley fails whilst I'm running in my new engine due to a manufacturing fault, where you have drilled and tapped into where there isn't much spare material in the centre of the OE pulley, and my lovely pistons get a mashing from some valves. Where do we stand regarding liability for the damage?

Not trying to undermine your workmanship, just wondered what your plan was if you got an email with a situation such as the above? I have looked at doing this in the past an decided it were safer to pay the money and buy a Kent Cams pulley made from billet.

I have too been thinking about this, but I have done all I can too ensure this won't happen, by making sure the pulleys are modified to a very high level of quality. Being a fully qualified production engineer I know what I'm doing, but I cannot put a garuntee on them, neither can the people selling bike carb inlet manifolds etc but its a risk people take when purchasing parts from private sellers.

To everyone who is interested in purchasing a vernier pulley, I am unfortunately not able to garuntee these will never fail. I have done everything I can to ensure they are of the utmost quality, any failure will be down to the strength of the original pulley.

Pictures of the finished pulley will be uploaded on Thursday morning.

By the way, I will only be able to supply 7 of these for now. The final price is £70 including return postage.
