I need new number plates as mine look tatty and crap but i dont just want the bog standard plates so i was thinking of having the letters slightly thinner and trimming the ends of the plate by 10mm or so on the ends, just some subtle changes to them not obvious ones. anyone know how legal this would be?

I think that there has to be a certain amount of plastic around the edge each letter.

Eg

There will be a set amount of yellow around each character

hmm i dont think its worth the risk, i'll probs keep them the standard size but get sliiiightly thinner letters just by a couple of mm or so so that its not hugely noticeable but subtley different

I'm changing my plates, i was after motorbike font and have seen two for 25 quid on motorbike font.

but i dnt knw the difference.

if you want really small plates, i know a place in watford that does them. they are bout 15 quid and they are really tiny and illegal.

Going by the info on the DVLA link, you should be able to shorten the plate by the width of the country flag on the end.

as long as you have the required 11mm border all the way around, they should be legal - just keep to the standard font though or expect a fine when the numberplate recognition cameras become more widespread
