Thinking of selling my MK1 Polo. I drove it for 2 years and it was an amazing first car, much cooler than my mates corsas, fiestas and other boring stuff. It pretty much sailed through the 2 MOT's it had, Only failing on a washer jet and a fog light bulb. However time, and rust, caught up with it, and it caught up with another cars rear end . I was gutted about the accident, and its been off the road since, as i couldnt (and still cant) afford to give it the resto it needs . So, on to the ad:

Its a 1981 MK1 Polo n, in Malaga Red. And comes with the 895cc engine (great for insurance), and has 61,616 miles on the clock.

Good points: Engine is in fantastic order, runs like a swiss watch, and comes off the choke quickly. It pulls very strongly in all gears and loves to rev. Started it yesterday after 2 months of sitting, and it fired up (took a few turns to pull fuel through) and ran well. Had regular oil changes. Recent head gasket, as a precaution. New water pump, fan belt, rocker gasket. Recent plugs, leads and dizzy cap. Carb stripped and cleaned. K&N air filter fitted.

Gearbox is good with no noises, all gears engage smoothly, clutch has plenty of life left in it. Brakes good when parked up, i had a new rear brake cylinder, and new pads. Been left with handbrake off, so arent siezed on. Very good battery. All mechanicals are basically tip top.

Its also had a new fuel tank, as the old one was rotten. Exhaust system is in good condition, recent standard back box (not currently fitted) and also a very rare 1977 Ansa twin pipe back box (fitted) which was NOS!

Floor pans are excellent, with no rot at all, as is boot floor and battery tray. No rot near suspension turrets. Interior is in good condition, apart from drivers seat which is ripped (material to repair included) and door cards which have been cut for stupid speakers by previous owner. Interior is black and white, and seats are low backs, with no head rests.

All doors open and shut great, all locks off one key. All tyres have legal tread. Everything on it works!

Not so good points: The bodywork is tired. I'm not going to try and say otherwise. Car is rusty and is a project, not for the faint hearted. Where its rusty its completely gone, but where its not, its rock solid. As mentioned earlier, The floor pans, boot floor and battery tray are solid. The sills need welding, but only to the back third, the rest is solid. Rear arches need replacing, and inner arches also need attention. Both front wings are to far gone, one had been covered in comics but its mostly peeled off. Front panel is dented, due to mentioned acccident, It could probably be pulled straight but it is rotten on the bottom and edges where it meets the wings anyway. Inner wings rusty on front edges, right side also has a hole elsewhere. No front bumper, grille and left side headlight broken. Rust bubbles around windscreen, and various other scabs of surface rust around car. Tailgate rusty around the window. Obviously needs a respray.

This would make a great winter project for someone with the time, skills and indoor space i lack. I would love to see this back on the road as it is a great little car, but sadly, i can't see that happening any time soon in my ownership. I have my MK3 which needs some attention, and takes priority as i drive it daily.

I have alot of spares that i collected ready for the resto, including almost all the panels needed. However these wont be included in the price shown, but are available for additional cost on top the cost of the car. The buyers of the car will be offered first refusal on the parts and they will only be available seperatley after the car has sold. If they dont go with it.

I want £350 for the car on its own.

And £750 for the car, and all the parts i have.

Before commenting on my pricing, bear this in mind. I spent £600 on the panels and body parts. Not including all the mechanical stuff i replaced, or the price of the car. So i am making a rather large loss. It may not look like it, but someone will get a bargain. This is a reluctant sale, and i'm not desperate to sell, so no silly offers please :-) .

Gotta sell realy mate as i have no money to do it, and all it will do is sit there another year or 2. Would be a shame to let it detiorate further, when you can buy it from me and put a 16v in it.
