1990 Mk2 Saloon GT'd

Featured Replies

Well its that time of year again when its insurance and MOT time.

I've toyed with selling this car several times before but this time its got to go as i've now got a replacement.

It is a 1990 G reg mk2 saloon Polo C, absolutely 100% genuine car, never been painted or welded!!!

I did a full GT conversion on it when i got it and it has been a brilliant car ever since.

It has 69,000 miles on the clock, which is just about guaranteed as i think all the old mot's are here somewhere. (10,000 more on the engine)

Had a new cambelt and water pump fitted before i dropped the engine in and has had the head gasket done since (couple of years ago).

K&N panel filter in the drilled airbox.

Exhaust is home made, de-catted with a Magnex backbox, not too loud, just a nice note to say its something different.

Inside i've put the standard seats back in so its all standard inside other than a GT steering wheel, Coupe"S" clocks (with tacho) and a set of 3 gauges out of an Audi Coupe for Oil temp (not wired up) Oil pressure (works) and Volts (which also works).

Outside it has Bilstein gas shocks all round and uprated springs all round.

GT rear beam.

Front brakes have been uprated with 237mm? vented discs and callipers to suit, which work very well once warmed up.

Wheels are 6x14 TSW Hockenhiems with good tyres all round.

All nicely clay barred and polished up this last week or so.

I have got it to MOT yet, so it will be sold with 12 months MOT on it and it is taxed until end of Feb 2012.

Heres some photos i've taken tonight now its decided its summer again!!

whats engine is it down as on the log book?

  • Author

Its still registered with the original 1043 engine.

If it sells it will be up to the buyer to change it if wanted.

No interest then eh?

Going to have to get some new seats for the front tomorrow, the cables are broken to tilt them forward and i've been told this is an MOT fail, so a trip to the scrappy tomorrow to see if i can get some fresh ones, other than that it is good to go to get an MOT.

Open to offers, like i said, its got to go, its just taking up space now!!

How much for the car with a year's MOT mate?

  • Author

How much are you offering, i've put a figure that i'd like but like i said, open to offers.

Nice looking Saloon.

What woiuld be the least you would take to get the car gone? I'm not bothered if you MOT it or not as I can sort that and I'm not far away.

You can just replace the cables rather than the seats so I'm not fussed if thats been fixed either. But would need to be alot cheaper fo me to buy due to poverty.

Sorry, it'll be sold with full 12 months MOT as its all ready to go, just need to sort the seats.

Couldn't get any from scrapyard yesterday, unless MK4 ones will fit (does anyone know if they do?)

Wouldnt think so, but any from a VW of the era will

Thanks

Trouble is, there is nothing of that era in any of my local scrapyards now.

The mk4 ones look like the same fitting its just i thought they might be wider in the newer cars, never went equipped really, i only had a 10mm spanner expecting there to be loads of mk2's and 3's but there was none.

Have you Tried Michal Douglas Scrap Yard in Carlisle, he normally has a few mk2/3 polos.

I usually just take a knife, cut the back of the seat, liberate the cables and then repair my seats (carefully remove the back cover and thread the new cables in), costs alot less than buying a whole seat.

Thanks, yeah i tried Douglas's yesterday, i think there was only 2 Mk3's in and the seats were sh#+e so i never bothered.

Went to my local one to Penrith and there was nowt in there either, so looks like i'll have to have a go at putting new wires in the old ones.
