Breadvan European F1 Challenge

Featured Replies

Hello, welcome to the post. Just thought I would share some pictures of the Polo in action around Europe. I bit of background info, currently serving in the air force in Norfolk, been in for around 3 years now. Spotted a sponsored banger run advert and just had to do it! who wouldnt want to. It was to drive to 7 F1 tracks in 4 days, the route was;

Silverstone

Spa Francorchamps

Nurbergring

Monza

Monaco

Paul Ricard Circuit

Catalunya

There were some rules though, the car had to be bought for less than £250, so the search began....

and this is what we found. £250 on the button from Autotrader.

70k on the clock! bargain. Had to have it. Only downside was the 4 gears but that didnt slow us down.

We acquired some NATO green paint, commonly used on the landrover fleet etc and started sponging....

added a blackboard bonnet just for the crack, didnt turn out too bad in the end.

we gave it a good service and had some various spare parts at hand, she ran like a dream all the way. until we broke down in france on the way home 4000 miles later though. But after a coil change she started up again and she got us home. Broke down again when i travelled home, but a new Distributor soon fixed that. Running like new now. £60 off ebay for the dizzy which i thought was a great price.

anyway here are some more pics of the car around Europe, anyone wishing to see what the challenge is next year follow the link.

Banger Run

Its open to all and not just military, its for a great cause. So far the totals for all teams has reached 25k!!!

i now use the car as my daily driver, its just a brilliant car to drive. Plus put too much money into it to just sell it on. And after 4000 miles of living in it, were now official going out.

This brings back memories of my old mk2 polo, looks like a fun trip cant help but think a red stripe grill (a la mk2 golf gti) would have set it off nicely.

Didn't know you could get them for the polo will have to have a look into that, as i agree that would look nifty. Thinking about lowering it to, but not too sure how much by yet.

I had one but recently sold it for a fiver, but some "rim tape" from halfords will do it, all you need is a strip along the top and bottom.

Nice guys, how much money did you raise for help for heroes?

That looks amazing, that picture just sold it to me, count me in for next year lol.

Very strange, definitely a green bready, with a Help for Heroes sticker in the back window!

I believe your local meet would be with the east coast dub club (ECDC). they meet near Kings Llynn somewhere. I have been to a meet in the past.

Dubgen currently meet at the jolly farmers in Aslacton on the third thursday of the month. Usually a good turn out. Must admit I havn't been for a couple of months.
