a word of warning...

Featured Replies

right so the other day i was told of a local lad round my area who i know was pulled over by the police for something minor (bulb out or something not sure) and as the police were checking his car they clocked on that it was lowered on coilovers, they rang up his insurance company and fund out they weren't declared so they fined him £200 and gave him 6 points on the spot....then impounded his car with a £150 release fee and an extra £20 a day to keep it there.

this has happened to a couple of people round my area (northamptonshire) recently and a good friend of mine is on his way to becoming a policeman so he gave me a heads up about police cracking down on modified cars and insurance declarations.

just a word of warning to anyone who rolls with undeclared mods, better to pay more and declare it to insurers or leave it standard than roll without.

I was picking up a car somewhere round your way at the start of this year and the police and VOSA wer pulling every commercial and every modified car in for a check. I've seen them use a flatbed to impound cars before, but it's the first time I've ever seen them loading them on articulated transporters and sending them off a wagon at a time :o

TBF with the pod being just around the corner, its probably the ideal place for catching people with undeclared mods

i heard it was a lad called scott, owns a red lupo. time to shop about for cheaper insurance or go back to standard suspension

Lets be honest it's not a bad thing and i have no sympathy. Do it right otherwise it will bite you in the fanny. If you don't have the money to cover yours mods then don't mod until you can afford it, simple. You see so many people buying ebay coilies and winding them to the deck whilst insurance, servicing and other important things get ignored. Covering mods isn't all that expensive in the grand scheme of things and if you chose to go with direct line etc who won't allow any mods then tough shit until renewal time.

i'm sure i posted in this thread

It's true that they should crack down on this kinda stuff but still its just a money making scheme if u ask me.

Has any one heard any more storys, as I have only heard about this one

Time to declaire my springs and shocks this weekend me thinks.

How is it a money making scheme? If you haven't declared then your driving without insurance and breaking the law, they are just finally enforcing it due to the massive increase of muppets doing it.

If you crash into some one with undeclared mods then you stand a high chance of your insurance finding out and refusing to pay out to the other person. So if you crash into some poor bastard who only has 3rd party fire and theft cover and write their car off they could be left with no way to claim for their car just because you were too tight to tell the insurance about your mods.

I'm glad they are doing this as its finally the people breaking the law being forced to pay for their actions instead of who ever they crash into.

I was under the impression the person u hit in most cases will still get there car paid for, compensation etc but the driver of the car with undeclared mods would end up paying it all bk out his own pocket.

They are pulling people for " light bulbs" or some other offense that it will turn out they r wrong about, while you are there oh look you are cars lowered, not declared? Fines for u then son.

What about the massive about of muppets driving dangerously?

I do agree with cracking down on it but tbh I generally think its just for there benifit

After reading this and hearing many stories about similar things around my way decidd to declare the suspension.

£46.32 for the year, so when you think thats only £4.63 a month, can complain really!

Wish I had done it sooner, but in my defence went to declre mods when first passed my test and lets just ay it wasnt £46.32.....try more like 20 times that!! :p

They stop and fine dangerous drivers too.

The thing is you are breaking the law and driving without proper insurance cover/no insurance. You have a light out and get pulled, unlucky you should have changed your bulb. Its the same with tyres etc. Everytime you get pulled they are pretty hot on tyres being legal. Is that for their benfit too? The fact is you know that you are modifying your car and not declaring the mods so you know you are driving with no insurance. These people should stop being such peasants and just pay to cover the mods or not mod until the money allows. I worry about the corners cut when modifications are being done by someone who is too tight fisted to pay to have the modifications covered.

I bet most of the traffic police won't relish the idea of doing the paperwork for some retards undeclared mods. They have to waste time dealing with it because it is the law. They look at your car whatever they pull you over for and they have every right to do so.

If the person with no insurance doesn't have the money to cover the replacement car then who's going to pay for it? His insurance won't as he wasn't insured to drive it, the victims insurance won't if they only cover tpft, its down to the uninsured driver but if he hasn't got the cash then the victim is left without a car. They could probably sue the driver for the cost of the car and injuries but again if he hasn't got the money to cover it then they ain't getting shit.

And are you trying to suggest that people who drive dangerously don't get done for it?

They probably do benefit from this crack down, but so do all the people who drive legally as its less uninsured Dick heads on the road. Uninsured drivers are also another reason insurance costs are going so high so the less of them on the road the less chance of the costs rising so much. Infact every one but the uninsured will benefit from this crack down.

Time to declaire my springs and shocks this weekend me thinks.

Its idiots like you lot that make my premiums higher to cover the cost of incorrectly and un insured drivers.

If you can afford to have lessons, pay for test, car and petrol you can pay for correct insurance.

and pay for mods?! when i look at doing another mod i take into account insurance, ring them first to ask, so that mods might cost £100 alone, but it might increase insurance by £20....so thats £120...a lad i know had invalid insurance (not mods, something else) and is now in £50,000 debt paying for a claim, along with having 6 points and such.

I also know somebody who had a moped when he was 16, he'd derestricted it...one day he fell off it, to which it hit a pedestrian and killed them, hes just came out of prison.

it would have been looked at totally different had he actually have been legit.

But my insurance is cheaper, that's where I just........win:) :)

what sort of warning is this?

Anyone with half a brain knows undeclared mods can fuck you up! and I'm sure most people who live near santa pod know about the police, so this is nothing new.

lol at the money making thing. Mods for me are free haha. Pays to go with mod friendly insurance.

Teaches you right if this happens cus u haven't declared shit :)

And we wonder why insurance is soo high,

People driving round not on proper declared insurance,

It cost me £30 to declare my coilovers and £50 for the wheels,

Hope they come to were i live, I know nearly every car in Tesco car park apart from a few that haven't declared their mods,

Really grinds my gears (no pun intended :) aha)

what a retard

Your paying for something that doesnt exist, now or in a crash. whos "Winning"?

Tonight I just had a local panda car come tearing down a duel carragide way, up my bumper and on his radio. We all know what he was doing, the usualy checks and so forth.

I declare everything on my insurance, even my white painted steelies (that cost 50p extra a month ). So i know i wont be finantialy cripled for life if i hit someone.

No you dont win you fucking idiot as you have just said on a public car forum that you have invalid insurance!! As previously stated if you can afford to put these mods on your car man up and pay the correct insurance for them as well...

stop bickering about it and get you are mods covered. easiest way to keep from getting pulled is by making sure all your lights actually work unless if like me you had a problem with getting the car back to a bodyshop after accident damage and theirfuck up breaking a plug to a light. simples

EDIT and if your like me you'll get insured with brentacre who allow any visual mods for free YES FREE

Police pretty much wont pull anything without cause up here, most people i know haven't declared a thing ever. I'm a good boy though.
