The downpipe on my beloved 1997 Polo broke yesterday evening. The AA did enough to it for me to get home, but now I need to know where to get it replaced on a budget (we had to replace the clutch last month).

I phoned National, and they said because of the location of the downpipe in the Polo, the labour costs would be a lot if they did the job, so I should ring a mechanical garage instead. Is that so?

I live in Ealing, so there are loads of places nearby, but obviously with the exhaust broken, I don't want to go far.

changing a downpipe is easy if you have a jack, axle stands and basic tools you should be able to do the job in under an hour. but on a 6n the downpipe and cat come as one unit so your looking about £70-110 depending where you get the downpipe/cat from.

most difficult thing to remove would be the lambada sensor as they normally rust themselves in pretty well, so expect to "need" a new one.

Cant see why and decent exhaust centre shouldn't be able to do it in under an hour or buy one from a motorfactors do it yourself and save the labour costs, it really is simple.

Think National may be confused with golfs.

i have a downpipe inc cat for a 1.4 8v sat here, easy to change yourself with basic tools and some patience (seized things)

If you dont wanna do it yourself and if you have a formula 1 autocentre by you try their, I used to work at one andt they always used to fit customers own parts for peanuts! And the best thing is if you get a cheaper quote from someone else they will guarantee to beat it, it's their company policy!
