Just wanted to know if anyone has had this tyre size for this wheel size?

Tyre - 165/55/R13

Wheel - Weller Steel Wheels 7x13 (4x100 PCD)

165/55/13 on a 7J

Ideally you want to be looking at 175/50/13 tyres but to be honest the 165/55/13 tyres don't look to be a bad shout if on a budget.

Yeah thats the size I was originally going to go with but I like tyre stretch.

The 175/50/13 is £55 (cheapest)

as opposed to 165/55/13 is £33

Its amazing the difference tyres make to the handling. Although compared to the mad stuff that some people run these should be just fine.

165/55 isn't going to give you any noticeable stretch tbh but its still not a bad size on 13x7

Maybe not but worth a mention. Although i did once have some budget 175/50/14 tyres on some 14x6J golf steels on a GT and it handled better than it did with some wider wheels with more expensive tyres.... it was weird.

I was only spirited driving and not tanning its balls off mind you.

Yeah I am aiming for a cheap project for my polo so anything to keep the costs down really, is there any problem fitting the tyres? I know there not that stretched but some garages get a bit aggy!

No they should be fine doing it. Its nothing mental that you asking them to do. Maybe kwik fit, ATS, motosave and those other joke, high street outfits might tell you otherwise but they are generally just black fingered drongos who think they are top shit mechanics anyway.

Look at this

Most people run 175/50/13 tyres but looking at the above diagram and reading the difference in the specs shows that there really is very little difference between the two tyes on a 7J wheel.

The real difference is obviously the brand of tyre with premium brands being available in 175/50/13.

I wouldn't put the Pirellis on anything over a 7in rim myself, they're tiny. But the Nankangs are far bigger and will look near factory on a 7in rim.

I don't know of other makes available, i was using this size years ago when they were the only caterers.

I'm running 165/55's nankang on my 7j power techs and as you say mikey it looks pretty much factory

I ran 175/50's on another set of powertechs I had and in terms of stretch there was very little difference at all. I'd say 165's are better as the slightly bigger side wall helps the arch gap situation

Well the 165/55's are £70 cheaper (per set of four) than the 175/50's so I'll be going with them, I now know a lot about tyre sizes, once again cheers for the help guys
