How do you remove and refit a 6N windscreen?...

Featured Replies

...can it be done without Gavin from Autoglass, or is it really not a DIY possibility?

Thanks

i've seen it done. but you're better off phoning around for prices as autoglass are stupidly expensive also by the time you've bought the screen, sealant tools etc there won't be much in the price of getting a local fitter to do the job and you will get a warranty in case anything goes wrong.

Well my mate accidently cracked mine and he phoned autoglass for a price and they wanted like £350 fitted LOL jokers, Gavin will be out of a job soon.

I think i have a second hand screen off my mates car if i want it, although removing and fitting myself could save a few quid thats all.

Most insurance companies come windscreen cover, I know the excess on mine is £70 and it doesn't effect your no claims bonus.

I would normally go down this route, however, i just cancelled my insurance for the winter :(

Unlucky mate, maybe you could wait until you insure it again in the summer and claim then. Otherwise just look in your local paper. I had a windscreen fitted (incl. the widescreen) in a fiesta for £120 not too long ago.

I definitely wouldn't attempt to change a bonded windscreen myself though

i had a windscreen fitted 2 months ago just found somebody fitting a windscreen and asked them if they wanted to

do a homer, new windscreen fitted was 156 quid

If you heat up the end of a dipstick with a blow torch it glides through the rubber easily, then you can thread cheese wire through. You need two people one inside and one out and saw the wire round.

Its hard work and me and my mate broke 2 in the scrap yard before finally removing one.

I agree, use a professional unless you like really hard work!

I had a bonded window taken out of one of my polos into another of my polos, which were bonded, £45

I'd say bonded screens are best left to the pros.

I had the windscreen crack on my old mk2, so I rung Gavin and even with AA member discount he wanted 170 squid. but because it was a seal jobbie I did it myself, in the snow for £35.
