Invest in a pair of snow tyres, fucking transform a car in the snow. Even like jags/bmws with snow tyres are better than lots of 4wds on normal tyres obviously.

I had no issues at all last year, started every time even in the heavy snow just had to hold the choke a bit longer till it came down to idle, only 1 day i couldnt start it temp at -25 and the slides had frozen.

One Neighbour didn't appreciate having my car sitting there at idle for 15mins at 5AM on the way to work, but he also had to deal with my other neighbour doing the same with his bike, complained to the police 15 times in 20days but police practically get complaints from him every time a bird shits on his car.

My mk2 managed the snow last year and I was driving 70 miles from country to city and back. I did have to jump start it every morning, but that was due to an ongoing leccy issue I had, made worse by the snow. I didn't even change the coolant/antifreeze.

Did have a strange situation one evening though where no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't stop my wondscreen icing on the outside, regardless of how much I scraped it!

As for handling in the snow, it's fun in a polo, but not good. Have found myself in a hedge a few times, but that was mainly due to me hand braking around the country lanes! My parents 9n tdi (no mine) was awesome in th snow last year, absolutely faultless.

not worried about the snow at all got the quad to play on if it get too bad :) quad sledging rocks btw :)

Skinny tyres, FWD and lightweight means you can get most places with relative ease.

I believe you can buy part worn M & S tyres for, like, £15 a go if you're super worried.

running wise, mines never fail to start, sometimes need a bit of warming up before it runs spot on. But never fails to get me where i need to go.

dont get me wrong when she warms up shes alright but I'm deffo looking forward to the snow!!

I had a modified leon cupra the first year we had bad snow (2 years ago?) and it was shite in the snow. Couldnt make it to work one day because i couldnt get it off the drive (on a hill)

Had a passat b6 estate tdi and it was awesome. Went past 4x4's stuck on hills and everything it was cool.

As stated if anybody is concerned about the snow, then get some winter tyres on there :)

The only car I feel confident in the snow with is my MK3. Bigger, heavier, modern stuff tends to get stuck. But, if i was to have an accident in something, i'd prefer it the other way on!

As for starting and running? It's never failed to start due to the cold and the heating is good enough to melt your nylon socks!

Mine will be staying firmly in it's underground carpark if it snows. i live at the bottom of a 'valley'ish thing so have to drive up a steep roads in all 4 directions to go anywhere!

Oh, that and managed to bend the chassis on my first MK3 in the snow when i hit the kerb at a bad angle :/

but that doesnt frighten me into not driving in the snow....it's mainly the first reason

I'll be anywhere in the country at a day's notice in a rwd transit just like I always am, laughing my arse off at anyone who's scared to drive a fwd hatchback to the shops. Grow some!

matt, if your up for a bit of safe, snow fun, find a lonley wide open road and give the handbrake a wee tug after youve turned a wee bit, master it and ull be able to go arrow straight but at a 45 degree angle, always good fun =] but be warned tho.

You should only be sliding the back end out if you have the minerals to do so without using the handbrake.

My car will be tucked up out of the way of any traffic if it snows.. And ill be tucked up in bed. Its not if I'm scared to drive inn the snow, its more that id rather be in bed asleep than be out in the cold in work
