Scared for winter?

I look forward to it.

My daily just now is an E36 BMW 318is and I've just shelled out on a set of winter wheels and tyres (Michelin Alpines at that!)

So come on snow...do your worst!!!

You'd have been better off running a cheap fwd car for the winter..

I have to agree with kwijibo.. We put them on a 200sx.. it when from being the worse car in the snow to the best I've ever driver. Winter tyres make so much difference its almost unbelievable. Every car I have now I will get a set of winter tyres.. even the polo :)

I'll be in the forces come November haha, last year I was doing winter on a 2 Stroke bike, now THAT was fun. Your all pussies xD

Depends, i chose them specifically for their lack of grip, and was disappointed that they grip better than both the Falkens or GTradials i've used before.

And thanks to my love of slippy driving antics, my skills in the snow are well honed, reflected in me never having problems getting about in such conditions.

thats fair enough, if you were after crap tyres then bam there you go. although I can imagine they are much better than proxes and the like in snow.

They're the best tyres i've used in the snow, but then they are like bloody tractor tyres!

when I bought my 6n2 it had Event WL 905's on the fronts, it brought a whole new meaning to the word "ditchfinders" all is well now with continentals. but thats a faintly 4x4 tread pattern you have got there mike.

Well, the track's wider due to Golf drums, and the tyres are the bigger XR2 size of 185x60x13, but yeah the height's stock.

Looks super high to me but I think the wider track and tyres make it look even higher. I wonder if it would be possible to make a Polo like one of those Mk2 Golf Countries...

Not on the standard suspension arms, but using a Suzuki jeep chassis it's possible to go one better..

I'd consider snow chains. I have to drive over 50 miles on a work day, last year it took hours with most roads closed and the long route achieved by driving on little more than idle half of the time.

If i thought they would more than offset their cost in lost work i'd go for it, but they're not cheap for what they are, and the amount of such severe snow we get.

What do people think about snow socks? They're certainly cheaper than chains

Apart from the most extreme country lanes, I wouldn't bother in this country (don't need to with winter tyres anyway), they're a pain in the arse to keep taking on and off (as are snow socks).

Better in mainland Europe where the roads are either ploughed every hour, or left so you can keep chains on for a decent distance.
