Mk2 breadvan GT

Featured Replies

I've been floating around on the forum for a few years now, in that time I've had my fare share of little old polos and thought it was about time to share one with you!

I bought this standard around a year ago and have done a little tinkering since...

Model: 1.0 hatchback polo cl 33k.

Engine: 3f GT engine 40k. 4-2-1 s/s mannifold, straight through s/s exhaust to single back box, 8k chip,

golf elbow and K&N filter. 4 speed. downfall.

Suspension: Jamex 70mm springs and shocks upfront, G-Laderseite ARB blocks. standard rears....

Brakes: Tired and spongy vw1's

Wheels and Tyres: 13x6 alleycats, 165/55/13 acceleras up front (better than nankangs although still sh**e),

nankangs at the back.

Exterior Styling: Removed door protecting trim, colour coded rear badges from a polo fox, metal pressed plates,

scabby rust and a Monkey!!!

Interior Styling: Little bit tatty, full coupe S interior, Q ball gear nob, no glovebox.

ICE and Security: Sony headunit, vibe 6x9s in the shelf.

This is Gwen and she's my daily, doing about 40-50 miles a day!!

Plans:

GT box - I split the seal on the GT box and it chewed itself up, thought it was a getting a little noisy :paranoid:

Golf GTI AFM - I fitted it but then the car didnt want to pull at low revs so it got taken off an i'll have another play when i

get chance,

De-wedged throttle body,

High lift cam,

Ooorrr, do i just go 16v AFH?? Hhhhmmmmm...

Rear suspension - Definatly stiffer, maybe lower..

Wheels and tyres,

Tidy the paintwork and interior.

and plenty more to come!

Looks great, the wheels are a tad wide but i think it pulls them off nicely!

Keep it 8v!

Lovely car, can't help but notice the front rake though :-p

Looks like you got a little trigger happy with the enter button too .

Yes, keep it 8V for sure, looks nice and tidy. Not a fan of the wheels on the breadvan shape, think the coupe pulls them off better personally.

I like it! Personally I'd pull the arches out a touch and drop it at the back to even it out and tuck the wheels. Other than that, looks good, always like the idea of a mk2 breadvan with a decent lump in!

shes come on nicely since 2010 :)

Are the wheels on the MK1 now? Looked nice on the Alley Cats, although needed to be lower at the back.

What suspsension is on the MK1? Looks super low!

don't want to hijack josh's thread mate but the mk1 was about 70-80....came like that so never knew 100%

shes sold now though so don't want to talk about it :p

Cheers for the comments

I think its just the offset of the wheels that makes them look wide, I've got some 13x7 ATS' that tuck in further than the alley cats..

I'm sure the back will be getting dropped. The arches have had a pikey roll and pull last winter so i could get some snow tyres under the arches. Its just I've driven it with the front rake like this for so long now I've grown to kinda like it!

Picking up some spit peice 13x7, 13x8 to go on next week, looking forward to seeing how they size up :unibrow:

So why the preference to the 8v???

First white breadvan I've seen, look awesome!

Definitely get the rear lower and keep it 8v! Plenty of power to be had from the 8 valves.

Good luck with the build mate, hopefully all goes smoothly..

Makes me miss my White van

You can get more power out the box from a valver, but I guess the 8vs are cheaper to tune. They generally produce more torque when tuned too. Bullet proof as well. I know harris is pushing 130bhp from a tuned 1.6 running bike carbs, and I'm hoping for a similar figure. I'm aiming for 170ish too from a g40 turbo hybrid engine I have plans for.

Think 8" will struggle on the rears depending on offset

Nice rims on your breadvan.

Seen this slinking round otley a few times, didnt know it was a gt though :o

The 8 valves staying put! Cam, new chip and a little porting and I'm hoping to reach the 100 bhp mark...

Tried on the new shoes last week, all I can say is they look rude.

There a set of 3piece PLS Hockenheim's with gold bolts and dark blue centres, I love ' em but they might have to go as I need some funds :-( . I'll try get some snaps up soon!

Prankstar - cheers for the info, just wandered where you got the van panels? I really want a pair!!!

Polio - I do do my fair share of 'slinking' ha, plenty of sneaky short cuts! What do you drive?? Not seen many polos about...
