That's not very useful for searching. In this case, searching for an engine cover was always gonna be fruitless when the germans describe it most closely as a cylinder head capping.

I've tried myself to use german ebay, with auto translate on google chrome, but it's still a nightmare.

Got to be honest no point using any kind of translation service supplied on the internet automatically unless its for simple word translation and even then it wont be 100% accurate.

German is such a creative language theres no way you could have something like rocker cover translated by anything other than somene who spoke German. If you stuck rocker cover into a translation service it would give you a literal translation!

But Ceri already had her with it this morning, rung her up when I was on my break and was just repeating it down the phone, I'm trying to extend my sexual vocab range, but shes having none of it!! Says thats all I know as it is :p So mechanical jargon is the next stepping stone :p

Just old school terminology sticking!! Its the same with metric and imperial measurments. Imperial measurments arent in commercial use anymore yet a greater majority of people, even those being brought up using metric, still use imperial!

There is also only 1 on ebay.de and none on ebay global.

Ventildeckel is more commonly used than zylinderkopfhaube

Really? I've done it a few times and found it a fairly painless experience.

I find it quite easy. If your slightly wrong with wording the 'suggestions' at the top normally find what your actually after.

Bit of trial and error but you get there in the end.

like b-shaw says its trial and error with the translators (i remember my french homework suffering from previous efforts haha), as polo6n2g40 mentioned the wording we use doesn't even properly describe what it covers...thought i'd try to get a translation from someone rather than something!

hopefully the person selling the one on ebay.de doesn't want an arm and leg for their polishing efforts

Its called a rocker cover on some engines. Mini engines for example... that actually have rockers where a polo engine would have a cam, hence it getting that name

Germans seem to call it a valve cover, which you can't argue, it is! The mk1 and early mk2s have rockers.

Spoke to the gf, she asked her old man and he'd call it a Ventildeckel ubt Zylinderkopfhaube isnt wrong either.
