My point is that a lot of manufacturers make engines these days that don't break (although some of the newer polo engines are having a hard time by the sounds of it) so to bring it up as a major point is practically irrelevant. It's like saying arsenal are the only team who can play football (which going on current firm would actually be a lie in itself )

Get a MG ZR 160 engine, made crap and will buger up every week but more fun than any vtec imo

Yes there good engines, very reliable,go well too, my friend has one wich had the 1.6 in it

Until he went and put a 1.8 in it (not sure of the code) and put a evo 9 turbo conversion in it, was so fast! Stripped out,carbon bonnet and boot,carbon seats and cage and no interior, even in the 1.6 form he had it rolling roaded at 178bhp with the mods he has..was so light that at the track day at donny he was sat behind scoobys and evo's....not over taking them but keeping up atleast

vti 1.6 or maybe look into a 1.3 glanza engine, freind has one with a bigger turbo and some minor work pushing 210 at the wheels on low boost,

both very good engines and vtecs are known for the hardcore shizzle

No fun to be had with that engine or car unless you like changing head gaskets and engine swaps.

If anyone wants to know why britain has no car industry left all they have to do is look at the shit rover was producing and compare it any other car manufacturer.

beleive it or not, rovers weren't all that bad when they were still about, it was shite management and budgeting that killed them off, remember BMW owned them for a period of time.

ok so there obvs has bee issues such as gaskets etc but compare that to any other manufacture and you will see that they are much more reliable.

if it was my choice id for german or italian (alfa or lancia) but then again I'm not too bothered about reliability, i like to tinker

Parts on my 160 as a whole needed replaceing every couple weeks but when it was running right it was loads of fun, for reliability hondas cant be beat from what I've heard tbh

I drive an early CRX VT every day. The standard UK engine is 150bhp, Jap imports 160. The majority have been tuned by now (for better or worse!)

Mine has 190k on the clock without rebuild and it's fine, still good power and almost no oil consumption.

I get 35mpg in heavy urban traffic, using VTEC for a quick burst twice a day if traffic on the bypass allows it.

It's the bodywork that kills them but Hondas are no worse than other manufacturers of the time IMO.

TBH people will usually talk a lot of crap about the B16a being all power at the top end, it's not true there is torque right through the rev range and VTEC is just a bonus really - with a decent noise to go with it.

Sorry never had a 8valve Golf to compare with but the B16a is a great engine to live with

That wasn't actually aimed at you personally lol. It just so many people regurgitate the same kinda shit all over the net, its some thing that has been said and has snow balled to the point where people saying it can't even give the origins of the original quote or even the exact wording of it. I remember not so long back when these claims of extreme reliability were directly followed by some thing like "did you know Honda have had a v-tec engine running for ten years on the redline with it only being stopped for designated service interval's and its never broken down!"

Yeah, and when he's saying about getting more than 100bhp per litre he compares the naturally aspirated Honda engine to a turbocharged american engine. Getting 100bhp per litre from a turbo isn't that difficult, and it's unfair to compare n/a and turbo power outputs as if they're a similar level of engineering achievement.
