Since the days of gt3 and that episode of top gear in the jag I've always wanted to have a blast round the ring. And by spring next year if all goes to plan with my new job and the fact most insurance comapnys offer me overseas cover too i'll be going there myself. Just wondering what the costs in petrol was to get there, i'd like to drive my own car out there but dont plan on taking it round the track. I hear they have instructors but do they have any hire cars you can take round the track, i'm sure enteprise wouldnt be happy if you wrote off one of there cars on the ring

any details to do with costs good cheap hostels/b&bs nearby would be great.

I also plan on taking a detour to dam on the way back

Well the thing is, even if you wrote off an enterprise or similar hire companies vehicle there isnt much they could do other than withold your deposit. Even your insurance will cover you to go around the ring as its classed as a toll road :p

But haven't been there yet, its about 4 hours south of where my gf lives but not going to bother taking the diesel around :p waiting for the summer next year and going to take the bike out there!

As regards to hostels and such, there is a camping sight close buy where you can actually rent a tent aswell, haven't looked into prices, but remember reading a thread on another forum a while back and they said the campsite was reasonably priced!

99% of the time UK insurance does not cover you for the ring on tourist days. Under European law they are they are required to provide 3rd party cover for other car... this does not include any crash barriers. However you might find that they will pursue you for the costs when you get back to the UK.

Companies like RSR (http://www.rsrnurburg.com/) rent out cars. check with them for costs.

There are loads of B&B there.. you have Ringhaus with is right by the entrerance then you have Burgstube (http://www.burgstube.com/) and also Hotel am Tiergarten (http://www.am-tiergarten.de/) but there are loads more.

I think youll find most insurance companies offer overseas BUT doesn't cover any road rallies/ race circuits etc so if you did crash then they wouldn't pay out if they find out you've been.

Ring isn't classed as a circuit, its classed as a toll road.

BUT, as mark says, our insurance will void it. In the small print on your policy most even state that your aren't covered on the nurburgring.

Hiring a car is EXPENSIVE And most require a MASSIVE deposit. And in most cases you have to be 25 or older.

Camping is the cheapest option id say at camping am nurburg (literally round the corner from the main site and the entrance to the track. You can hear the cars/bikes on the GP track from there.. awesome wakeup call lol)

Hotels n whatnot are awesome, some even offer you use of garage/workshop and ramps etc haha. And even have garages to store your cars for some extra money.

As for cost... How much have you got? I think with the ring, the more you have the better the experience lol.

Credit card... take one.

If you stack it on the ring you could end up bankrupt from it, and I'm not joking.

Not trying to scare you or anything haha, but the risks are high. Just dont be daft

Deffinatley be camping in germany though to keep costs low.

Well most insurer's in the small print don't specify the Nurburgring in particular, they just say track days, road rallies and events or something similar. Or something along those lines. (Been with 4 different ensurers and none of them specify the Nurburgring). And as its classed as a toll road they cannot legally refuse to pay out! Unless of course as stated youve only got third party insurance which as said doesnt cover crash barriers! But most insurers when you go over to Europe will offer a small payment to upgrade cover to fully comp. Last ensurer I went over to Europe with was direct line, I was going for 14 days and think they charged me a payment of £24 to upgrade to fully comp.

Dont think there are any age limits to the ring, obviously providing youve got a licence and your not disqualified :p

But as regards to camping you may well be surprised at how much places charge for camping. I know this isnt the Nurburgring, but went on a touring cycle this year for 4 weeks with some mates are Europe. Followed the Rhyne and afew places on route were chargin 20euro + per night for a camping spot!

You may find this to be the same around the Nurburgring as its a massive tourist spot and business know people will pay the prices that are asked!
