Me and a mate were having this conversation the other day as I was just about to start servicing the car.

The last time I serviced the car (and I would like to clarify I'm no beginner to cars which makes it even more embarrasing), after draining the oil as per usual replaced the oil filter and went to fill it back up was standing there minding my own business, put in the required amount of oil, checked it and very little was registering on the dip stick. So thought ahhh I'll give it 5 mins now for the oil to drain through the engine. Came back and pulled the dip stick out, this time it was even worse!

So me puzzled at this point as to what was wrong all of a sudden realised I had forgotten to put the sump plug back in and had just spilt just over 4 litres of VW's finest PD engine oil all over the tarmac!

What a tool I felt!

So what cock ups have you guys made?

Just now was adjusting my coilovers, lowered down on trolley jack, then got stock jack, winded up off of trolley jack, wound halfway down look at the wheel, realising I hadn't put the wheel back on haha - what a donut

I'm a mechanic as my day job and one of the mongyiest things i`ve done is drained the oil with out a drianer underneath it, resulting in my ramp and floor being coverd in oil.

And another was putting the wrong pipe on the drianer to empty it, so instead of it being sent in to the waste oil tank, it squirted out of the pipe i should have put on the drainer and coverd the room in oil (to top it off, once i connected the air line i went to off to do something and came back to find the contents off the drainer on the walls) After about 6 hours cleaning and getting the room redecorated it was as good as new .

That BMW was a fucking nightmare! Guy in Pontarddulais owns it now and In fairness he's taken damn good care of it compared to luke ragging it round everywhere!

I did the same thing with the sump plug once. But my oil filter had welded itself to the engine and took forever to get off. In wrestling with it I forgot about putting the sump plug in until I was pouring oil in one end and could feel it on my feet at the other end

You only do that once!

I once managed to get a car 7ft in the air on a 4 poster ramp by not releasing one of the levers fully. Was an intense 90 minutes of barring the fuck out of the cables so i didnt have to pay for repairs.

Iv seen someone top up the gearbox oil through the flywheel inspection hole at the top

We had issues with every single part of doing the wishbones, a nightmare was putting it kindly. sure I threatened to set it on fire a few times and would have if my car wasnt in the same workspace.

i was painting a corsa c had the job all done was just giving it a good clean decided to pull it in the shed but instead of driving it in i reserved in (Big Mistake) and my dad had a shougun jeep on the lift because of the size of the jeep the arse was sticking out a good bit and it wasnt that high up in the air and the corsa c's have a thick black tint ruing along the edge of the rear window i couldn't see the tow bar and the sad thing was i wasn't even going 2 MPH smash in comes the back all round me good i was sick cost £150 for a new window

On my old ZR the battery was dodgy so as a temp fix to allow me to drive and pick up another I decided to charge it overnight, so I took the battery off then thought o no my cars going to be left open all night on a main road. So I decided to put my battery on to enable my central locking to work, locked it all up took the battery back off to charge. No problem you might say. Get up in the morning and realised id have to open my bonnet, kinda goes without saying, so open the door with the key. But how when I had delocked handles, boot maybe. Nope, because id forgot about the newer style flush boot id fitted 2 days before. I've never felt like such a plank

one day decided to replace all the brakes on my rover 220 turbo, did fronts and then it started raining so i left the rears......went out the next day and had this almighty knocking noise, seems id forgotten to tighten the rear wheel nuts up again!

How did you end up getting into the car out of curiosity??

^ done that before too, but the battery incident seemed more retarded lol

The AA guy somehow connected some battery he had from under the car to normal battery connectors allowing the fob to work and open the doors, he did try to wedge the door open and pull on the door pins, but as theyd been removed that didnt work lmao

i was working under the bonnet of my old loon thought great that jobs done shut the bonnet then thought my keys are under there no problem i thought ill just go and pop it back up. of course the door was open then had to break into my own car to pop the bonnet to get the keys

same car last october me and walshc had just lowered it 80mm on the garden some of you may recall the pics so i thought ill see how it rides now dropping down a kerb in a lowered car is something we all dread but considering this was the first car id ever lowered so far it wasnt something i was concious of so off i went drove down the kerb to which the car got wedged on then spent 3 hours getting it off

i've done loads of stuff but i cant remember most of them, most invole nearly finishing and forgetting one piece and having to strip and rebuild whatever it was.

Couple pop to mind for me, changed the front pads on this little clio, all fine went and had lunch, came back, jumped straight in the clio to move it.....................didn't pump the pedal before hand scariest few seconds of my life haha

Another time servicing a mk4 golf, the oil filter was a right biatch to get off, finally managed to using the biggest bar ever, put the new filter on, topped her all up fine, started it up then after a few seconds thought " ohh that doesn't sound right", switched it off to find the old oil filter seal was still on along with the new one and 4 litres of fresh oil all over the floor :( lol

Was putting some 6x9s in parcel shelf of the 6n, placed them on parcel shelf turned them facedown and drew around the outside of them, cut the hole, placed speakers in hole and they fell straight through bcos like a retard id made the hole the exact size of the speaker....special needs moment for sure!

built an engine up, timed it all up, went to crank, realised id forgotten to fit pistons......

nah joking aside, silly little things, like bolting bits back on then realising iv missed something, and having to remove what id just fitted to fit the other part haha
