not so long ago i was washing my car so lifted the front wipers up and thought, "while I'm at it i will top the water up for the washers". lifted the bonet up while the wipers were still up and took a decent amount of paint from the lip of the bonet and snapped a wiper

not in the same league as some, but i once spent every weekend in July doing the fully polished and tidied engine bay thing before a show- painted engine polished turbo and pipes etc.. Had everything alloy off and polished to a mirror shine and multiple waxes etc on the paint including the underside of the bonnet - not a mark left in there. Drove to show with oil cap off!

Then to top it all off, when I got to that show (I've mentioned this before) failed to swap my car for a DMC 12 and the guy was so keen!

I've got one, wasn't me though it was a mate that was working under his landrover and while under there managed to drop a big socket onto his face and chipped his tooth. One of the questions that another friend asked him was, why the fuck was you smiling while you was working under your car.. Funny at the time :)

Only thing I've done is forget to put oil cap on. But I don't remember taking it off. So must of been off for at least a week or 2 haha. Car is fine though. Engine bay isn't in the best of condition now though. Clean It up in the summer

okay so now this will make you laugh! i was working a a mk2 formal e polo and it needed a new engine so the lad bought a mk2f polo engine and gone from 1.1 to 1.3 and in the end we needed a new head so we got a new head and went to do do the head gasket okay its a simple job so i used the car reg at the motor factors as you do to get the bits so i did the head gasket pu the engine back together and wouldnt time up the piston was hitting what apeard to be the valves so i scrathed my head n though okay so ill time it up again .. same again n i thought well this is strange :/ so i took the head off again and timed up the block and the head sepratly so when they went back together it would be perfect put the belt on went to turn it over by hand and "donk" its hitting so i thought this is impossible! the valves were up with the piston and i thought there is no way its possible hitting! so i lost my rag with it came back a week later n thought ill take the head off again n then it hit me like a ton of bricks! cus of course the head gasket was for a 1.1 and it litterly milimetres smaller so the piston was hitting the egde of the gasket! i was like oh fuck! got the right gasket timed it up first time! was like ohh fuck lol! i felt such a tit! specially since iv ben a mechanic for 5 years! lol

A friend at work had some running problems with there car and i said i would have a look in the afternoon

when the time come i said start the engine and il have a listen first.

the pratt only started it in gear and drove through a fence lol

had to wait ages for the chance to fully lol over it

I've done that as well! I was working under a GT Squareback at the time. :)

altinator belt went on my mg zs and u know the old wives tale that u can use some tights to get it to a garage bla bla bla...... well i done it thought it was working ok till i heard a bang crash wollop!! stopped and lost the tights..... took half the engine apart to find out it got caught in my cambelt made it jump a few teeth and bent some valves..... my bad :grin:
