Long story short, i can't get insurance on my modified mk2 bready, so i'm gonna garage it for a year and get something else to drive until then.

basically i need what all young drivers do, something cheap to drive/insure/tax/fix (but preferably not the last one too often) ideally i'd like something a similar kind of age to the MK2 polo or older, cos i don't much like the body shape of cars since then.

i'm looking at maybe another mk2 polo, but they seem to be getting popular and expensive, maybe a ford fiesta (dunno how much the mk2s go for?) or like a peugeot 205 or something?

anyone got any ideas, before i start having to look at newer cars?

(also, i'm totally happy driving a slightly scruffy car, if anything i prefer it)

what about a 1.0 mk3 coupe? easy enough to pick up cheap and the insurance will be about 47p.

If you want something cheap and not have to spend any money on whatsoever - go Nissan micra. Cheap to buy, cheap to insure and bulletproof!

Take the mods off of your current Mk2 Polo? You'll probably end up saving a decent amount.

well i asked one of the insurance companies if that would help, and he said no, basically.

he said that because i've done it, it means that when i replace everything i've changed, the insurance companies would still take it into account because it's weaker or some bullshit.

Just insure it as standard, and then take all the bits off maybe? Or Get a MK3 polo 1.0 mate. Reliable as anything, cheap enough and readily available. Also cheap to repair, as there are so many being broken all the time. Thats why I've got 2 :-) And no, Metros arent reliable. They are rovers.

Insurance on a 1.3 isnt too bad, may cost £200 more?? But not sure. Never got a quote.

Find a Peugeot 205 1.1, my mate had one very cheap to run and they're surprisingly nippy!

i would but i've already phoned up a lot of them and said it's modified so it'll be on all the databases. plus one of the mods is paint =P

i dunno, i think they enter all the details to get the quote, but it automatically goes into a database. cos it always says at the beginning that they check a database to ensure you provide correct information.

Depends how they're looked after probably, like most cars. Don't get exited about picking on up though, good ones are expensive and the cheap ones tend to me garbage.
