Just picked up a new car, more of a work in progress at the moment with a few bits to sort.

The cars a mk2 coupe s with a gt conversion. Don't know who's done the conversion, but it looks all sound and done well.

Quite a nippy little thing aswell, although I haven't taken it out for a proper run as it was spluttering abit on the way home from picking it up. Its ridiculously loud, has a huge backbox, and a straight through middle pipe, been lowered (not sure how much) on springs and shocks all round. And according to a list of jobs/to do I got with the car, the cambelt and h/g have been done recently, along with fuel filter, plugs leads and all other servicing bits.

Few little niggles to sort out, as I mentioned above, at the moment it will not idle right, it'll be fine when the engine's cold just when it warms up, the revs hunt around and die eventually. Pretty sure I've narrowed it down to a faulty lambda sensor so keeping my eyes peeled for one of them, in the meantime it got unplugged.

Yeah the exhaust's abit ridiculous tbh. It's too loud even at idle, gonna keep my eye out for something abit smaller when I get it on the road.

Couple of new pictures, finally got round to washing it, and painting the steelies all the same colour.

Just need to sort some paint out for the wings, MOT it, and I'm good to go.

What do people think when they add components like that to their car? Its the kind of thing that would instantly make me walk away and buy a different polo upon sight.

Looks superb apart from that.

you could plug the car in to VAG-com to check what faults arise. would be cheaper than guessing what might be wrong by buying replacement sensors etc :)

I know what you mean, its a laugh for the first few minutes getting a few head turns, but then you realise you look like a complete tosspot.

And yeah I thought of that but I've never looked into a vag-com, is it just a cable to connect to your laptop? Or is it a specialist part that only garages can do?

It 'should' be a plug in connection that is located under the dashboard at the passanger side. Thats if the conversion has been done correctly. I'm not sure if mk2's have them. i would presume they do. A garage can do it with a vagcom scanner or somebody with a laptop can if they have the correct cable.

Ahhright, yeah everything wiring related is mk3 so no doubt it'll be there. If this lambda swap doesnt work I might look into getting it plugged onto vag-com.

Cheers pal, yeah the little issues are getting sorted bit by bit. Done the drivers side arch today so its starting to look abit tidier.

Another little update.

Found out this was made in west germany rather than spain, don't know if thats anything special, but it's different

Also when I was under the car sorting the exhaust I noticed the n/s inner cv boot was completely shot, it was in 3 seperate pieces, and what looked like electrical wire trying to hold it all together. Think I just caught it before the joint dried out so that's all sorted now.

Bit more bodywork sorted, exhaust tucked up and rehung, and yeah just a general tinker about with it.

Still need to do a few things but just wanna get it through the MOT tomorrow, so fingers crossed I should have it on the road tomorrow afternoon.

To do-

Find a GT air box, or a decent filter.

Replace the ridiculous backbox.

Fit new lambda (should arrive in tomorrows post)

Sort the drivers rear quarter out, pics below.

New wheels (although that can probably wait til after winter)

Small update...

Haven't done much to the car over winter, hadn't even cleaned it inside until today

Got it running pretty much spot on, has a bit of a cold start-up issue but always fires on the 2nd turn or when I feather the throttle.

Got a new exhaust a couple of months back, I'd had quite enough of the paint can that was fitted so I got a g40 back box that is much, much more subtle, looks standard and is nice and quiet when idling/cruising but has a nice rasp when I give it the beans.

Other than that I've got some smaller tyres for the front, took a couple of coils off to make it sit better, sorted some of the bodywork out and spent a fair bit of time refitting things like dashboard, carpet and pieces of trim etc. God knows who fitted everything, there was bolts and fixings missing all over the place.

Still got a few plans, need to sort the rear valance out, need something to fill the hole where the backbox used to be, would a glass fibre kit make a decent job of it?

Also getting the steels banded in the next couple of weeks, watch this space

So after a good all over clean today I took a few pictures.

This mess is the next job, gonna take some bits off and clean/respray what needs it.

SOOOO much better with a stock exhaust - what a transformation (all round) - cool car!

I don't usually think Mk4 steelies suit pre-94 cars either.

Yeah I'm in two minds whether to get these banded though or go for the mk3 steels I've got spare, not sure which'll suit better.

Fully agree on the exhaust though, massive difference both in looks and noise.

Finally got myself a set of wheels.

The plan was to get my standard coupe steels banded, but these came up for a steal and after a bit of working out I realised they'd fit perfectly.

They're banded steels from a k11 micra, 6.5x13 all round, but the offset is perfect, they sit flush with the arches on all 4 corners.

Tyres are a little tall, it's on 155/70's at the moment so its scrub city, will be sorting them in the next few days hopefully and swapping for something like 165/55.

Also the paintwork's shocking on them, looks like someone thrown paint on rather than spraying it so I'm in the process of stripping them back and repainting, killing my fingers in the process.

Anyway I'll let the pictures do the talking...
