I've just bought a complete gt engine conversion and it looks tidy and ran before it came out

I'm thinking of stripping and rebuilding the complete engine as i dont know the history.

is there anything to look out for and anything i NEED to do!?

i will be replacing anything that needs doin including water pump clutch belts plugs leads

any info or help will be much appreciated cheers

If it was me. Like you said you know the engine runs fine. I would go and put a new belt and water pump on and drop the engine in. Once its setup and running in your car give it a good service.

But If you want to rebuild it with new rings, gaskets, bearings, oil pump, getting it honed, head skim, etc your talking about a good few hundred quid if you can do it your self.

Maybe price it up your self if you want to do complete rebuild. Speak to some local engine builders?

No point fully stripping/rebuilding it if it ran ok and the bottom end wasn't noisy etc.

As said above, change the cambelt and waterpump and then service the engine when its in the bay (as it will be easier). Drive the car for a bit and see how it goes. The bottom ends on them are pretty bullet proof and if the head needs refreshing I find it easier to do with the engine mounted in the bay.

Cheers people, just dropped it off yesterday gunna get it completly rebuilt as it wont be comming out of the car again when its in.

the bottom end was a bit noisy so id rather do it properly this time.

if it aint broke, dont fix it :)

4 branch arrived monday, found out my ecu already has an 8k chip and throttle body has been de wedged.

hope to get a cam for next week as my head is gettin rebuilt soon.

who recons air flow meters? can u even buy a new one anymore????
