Hi All, just bought this little gem for only €200, and plan on turning this into a real headturner :) All ideas needed. Thanks in advance

nice plans! A few ideas for you, GTI front grill. VR6 leather interior (in black). Remove the centre console and fit 6n2 gear gaitor + knob. HID's. Colour coded de-locked handles. De-wiped at the rear. As for wheels you are choice entirely but i like ATS cups or i think if you go for banded steelies have the spoke kinda bit black and the banded part in red... Would look pretty sweet.

Edit: also definitely home depo your headlights!

yes sort of, to depo: remove the headlights and heat them up to remove the glass. Using high temperature paint, paint the non reflective parts inside the light (on mine it was all the lined areas) then re-seal the headlights and it gives it a nice dark (depo) look and its not on the outside :-)

Cool didnt know that dude and thanks, could you tell me the name of the paint that you used to do it and ill see can i get it? This is my first ever serious project and really wanna push on now :)

Just another thought and without looking tomorrow I'm unsure but anyway........ as i plan to remove and smooth the rear handles, you say DE-LOCK the handles do you mean fit C/l and replace the lockable handles with non-lockable if so could i use the rear handles as a replacement or do they open in a different manner???????

if you get remote central locking (key fob) fitted then you can de-lock the handles, pretty sure they fit the same so shouldn't see why not. I'm going to post you a few pics up tomorrow when I'm on my laptop if my depo headlights so you get the general idea. I didn't use any sort of brand to do it just make sure it high temperature paint ( i used matt black but you could use gloss)

in my opinion it makes the lights look much better + its a cheap and easy to do mod yourself

I must say that does look pretty sweet mate and looks like ill be payin halfords of a hardware store a little visit today for a lick of paint :) , thanks matt01, how did you remove the glass from the unit? is it a case of gettin out the womans hairdyer? lol if so thats not a problem but what did you use to stick it back together?

i used a dewalt heat gun that i paid £25 for on ebay, not sure if a hairdryer would be good enough but you could give it a try, i know some people put the lights in oven for half hour and do it that way but its your choice.

As for putting it back together i just brought some clear all purpose sealant from homebase (if you can get heat resistant do so but don't know where to get it) but you want it to be clear sealant!

make sure you scrape as much of the old sealant off the unit before using the new stuff or it may cause a leak then leave overnight by the radiator to dry

Ok, little info and few questions....

Today i had to call to my local scrappy for the headlight stalk as mine had broken :( so thats all swapped over and now i have beams again :)

and so for the questions

while in the scrappys i saw a 3dr 6n2 2000plate

I'm having the rear lights, mirrors and center console but my question is

inside it has very nice and VERY clean black and red interior (front and rear seats only NO door cards) do the 6n2 3dr seats fit in the 6n1 5dr??????

only other thing is that the front seats have the lever to access the back but that doesnt matter

Its looks like they kinda would by the way they are placed in there but can someone tell me if they do for definate as i really like these seats as they match the car colour wise :)

Cheers dave, I thought they might of by the way they looked in the 6n2 but wanted to be sure :) dont wanna go buyin things if they aint gunna fit lol, and you it is a good tidy base few little jobs to be done first few bulbs and new tyres needed for the NCT test ( M.O.T ) then ill really start with this but overall it is a nice clean motor this is my first polo and I'm DELIGHTED with it :)

Ok another little question for everyone .... i saw a thread on here from someone who converted the front of their 3dr 6n1 to the front of a 6n2....

OK....

I assume that the same procedure can be done to a 5 dr and if so EXACTLY what parts are needed to do this ?

From my scrappy i can get hold of ..

the 2 front wings

the bumper

the bonnet

grilles

ALL lights heads and indicators

What other parts if any are going to be needed ? do i need the slam panel too?

think that's all you need not 100% sure though, if its a different bonnet the catch may locate different so you may need the crossmember + slam panel

DESPERATE HELP pleassssee ! Ok so my tyres are quite bad so they are getting sorted and I'm re-newing ALL the wishbone bushings and balljoints but my problem is this........

The top mounts on the front shocks dont sit on the body and seem to be about 4 mm in the air ???????????????????????

With her sitting on axle stands and the wheel removed, the top mounts sit on the body but IF by HAND you slightly raise the shock by lifting the disk, with the other hand you can WIGGLE the top mount around in a circle

SURELY THIS ISNT NORMAL?????? drivers side sits around 4mm high and passenger sits around 2-3mm How do i solve this problem and thanks so much for any help as this is badly needed :(

EDIT: just so I'm clear with everyone ONLY when on the axle stands do the top mounts sit on the body when DRIVIN' they are in the air by both 2-3 and 4mm !

If it lifts when you push it up, it means there is a gap between the top mount and the top of the strut mount (where it sits in). This does happen and is because the rubber bits around the top mount have worn away - they're quite cheap really, around £20 with the bearings too!

If you're planning on fitting coiliovers then change them when you do it, if not you could change them now....It's not a major problem however could cause some problems - depends how bad it gets - if it's just a gap it shouldn't be too bad...

On the otherhand, I've got new topmounts in and it sits a few mm out because it physically can't go down any lower as the bolt and top mount prevents it from doing so! - However it seems from what you said you need new top mounts mate!

Thanks a mill dave thats a help and yeah i understand what your saying. Like i said they do dont quite sit 100% on the strut mount they sit around 3-4mm and there isnt any noise or knocking from them BUT sometimes on a not so smooth road i can feel a little play

dave a question .. to change the top mounts must i COMPLETELY remove the shock sorry but I'm a novice at this but afraid of trying nothing lol

No worries mate!

From what you've said that's definitely what it sounds like to me!

And Yeah you do, you will also need spring compressors to compress the spring before you attempt to undo the bolt holding the top mount down - otherwise that compressed spring can fly off at you which you really don't want happening at all - can be lethal!

Oh you would also need to get the camber/tracking re-done afterwards as you would have probably adjusted it when removing the shock! - If you plan to get coilovers any time soon i'd recommend doing it then as it will save a lot of hassle ... unless the car isn't driving right then do it now and it should sort the problem mate!
