Got hold of some 13x6J et33 BBS RA's which were an optional extra for the mk1 golf (not the 5.5J G40 flavour). They were old, tired and had disgusting tyres on.

Amazing what can be done in 3 days :-)

Got some 165/55/13 tyres to go on and a set of spanking new extended bolts and lockers.

Will get some more pics up very soon.

Dead ones. They'd not seen the road in about ten years by the looks of it. Really were horrible. In the bin they went.

Thats really good going. Prepping these is one of the worst jobs I've had to do

All the spokes and fiddly bits. Never again

blasting and powdercoating is the future. I'd rather give someone my hard earned cash then have to do them again myself

Just thought i'd blow some minds, people thinking i ragged my hands to bits trying to sand between the spokes

Coating is the best

Cleaning the brake dust off them is hard enough so hats off, they look great.

I am just about to do this to some RAs, give me the lowdown on what you did! sand/soda blasting?, paint colour etc. could use the tips

Well what i did is:

1) Tyres off.

2) Give to powder coaters.

3) Collect from powder coaters.

:-)

Just asked for a standard silver and let them do the rest. They said they didn't need them cleaning or anything as they just blast everything off them anyway.

haha cheeky! I just picked up some 14"s and am going to possibly re-do them homebrew stlye but i found some other threads about it now, the finsh you have is exactly how i want mine!

If going home brew then the key is prep and make sure whatever you spray onto has a good surface key for the paint to stick to. Flaking on badly prep'd spokes will look turd.

I have repainted other less complex wheels and its not that fun. You will have a job on but if done right and you take your time you should get something nice. Go for silver though. RA's look best in their standard silver colour.

Missed having an 86C. Didn't want another G40 so bought this as a nice hack. Done SO MUCH work on it in the Month i have owned it. Let's just say it needed some TLC.

Last little bits for its winter look will be the full arch and sill trim set, rear stub axle spacers and maybe drop the front a touch. Pretty much changed everything in a month.
