Powersteering gone, light on, Airbag light flashing, Beeping Sound, Abs Flashing Intermittently

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

It's about time I ask advice about yet another problem with my Polo (9N) - 1.2 Petrol

Driving home, the power steering cuts out, it's done that before then gone away after a while - I'm due to replace the pump and have bought a replacement.

Next the handbrake/brake fluid warning light flashes - beeping sound comes on and won't go away. Next the airbag warning light comes on and flashes regularly, then the ABS light blinks on and off for a second at a time.

Has anyone had this stupid problem before?

I'm thinking obviously the pump has seen better days but hoping that the other stuff isn't anything serious.

Are there any known faults, fuses, relays that are connected to all three of these areas?

Also, how easy is it to access and replace the power steering pump?

Is it just a case of removing the arch cover on the passenger side or a little more involved?

Sounds like your fan belt has come off to loose the steering and the battery is not charging hence voltage sensitive lights popping up on the dash

Could be, no battery light flashing up though, I thought that'd be the sign of a fan belt?

Not always, I've seen batteries not charging while not bringing on the warning lamp. I'd certainly check the belt condition.

I'll give it a proper look tomorrow, belt seems to be spinning fine and freely though.

I'll try running the car off jump leads to another car and if the lights etc go away it's likely the belt, alternator or battery gone.
