Already posted some pics of this up on here. But seen as its going to be a project, thought i'd start a build thread. So here goes :-)

Recently bought a 1994 coupe Parade in rare Arctic Blue. Its the 1.0l spi and has 83k on the clock and all books with service history until 2007.

Well the build has begun:

Did this before i'd even got the car:

Carefully sanded off all the green from the light filter, then cut out some blue aceatate and layed it on top before refitting.

When i'd got the car I started with giving the engine bay a good clean up as it was filthy. Heres the result:

Then it was time to jack it up, and clean all the dirt from round the filler neck and rear arches. Next I wire brushed the brake drums, then a few coats of satin black hammerite. They were silver over flakey rust. I also cleaned up the part of the beam visible in the pic, and that is satin black too :-).

Next was a trip to Bus Freeze in stafford, where i found a pair of these:

Passat chrome winders. Much better than the nasty originals, and as they're metal, and genuine VW, will never break.

On the way back from Bus Freeze took a detour to collect these:

And to get up to date:

Painted rear badges satin black yesterday, which looks alot better than the faded chrome they were.

Not completely rust free. Has had back of drivers sill done. Its quite a good repair, but they didnt redo the stonechip, just painted over. I will do the stonechip tho. Also bubbling at bottom of passenger arch. Will get any rust and the parking dings dealt with when its on the road :-) Cant use it yet as cant insure 2 and still using my white one while i do this one.

Not done alot happened to this lately. Mainly due to crap weather. But have managed a few little things.

New valve caps:

Can also see the recently painted brake drum.

Got rid of a classic MK3 problem for good. Completely rotten tailgate plinth/number plate light screws. Replaced with polished stainless hex bolts and screws:

The start of probably many chrome or stainless things (i will resist going over board tho)

Also replaced all the number plate fixings on the back.

Its started leaking fuel all of a sudden from the filler neck. Wasn't doing it when i got it or when i was doing all that cleaning and paint underneath. Good job i have a spare tank hanging about. Head gasket may be going as well as theres a tiny bit of white under the oil cap and its said they go at 80k. Its on 83k. Dont seem to be having much luck with this car at all. Seems every time i improve it something else cancels it out.

Finally fitted my black parcel shelf. Just the first step to a dark interior, but looks better already. Getting a GT interior soon.

Hopefully some nice OEM extras will land in front of me at a non scene taxed price. Not holding much hope though .

Minor progress. Golf elbow is on, just waiting on my cone filter and some jubilee clips:

Also got this cold air feed trumpet for nothing, so may as well use it:

I will cut a hole in the small plastic clip in panel in the front bumper on the right and run the cold air feed from there. Seen as red clashes with blue i will paint it aswell.

Next job is the 6n engine cover, then powder coated cam cover, and i'll be about done in the engine bay :-)

May have to rethink the induction pipe tho, as the one on there is flexible and moves about too much when the filter is on.

A small problem with fitment of the engine cover:

The bracket touches on the pipe that goes from the expansion tank to engine, and kinks it badly, which obviously is no good

Seems theres no way around it other than cutting off one of the mounting points for the cover.

could you not try bending the bracket straight then bending it futher up?

Solved the bracket problem by popping the pipe off and re routing it the other side of the bracket where it cant be pinched. Finished the elbow install yesterday aswell, and everything is bolted down. Removed the manifold heat sheild/ hot air feed. Some satin black high temp will sort the rusty manifold out

Painted the filter satin black instead of the blue it was, and a combination of a 90 degree bracket bolted to one of the studs on the inner wing, and a cable tie solved the problem of the filter and pipe moving about . IMO it all looks very tidy, and almost factory:

Got myself a GT wheeel and black boot carpet with sound deadening, for £18 posted. Win! Heres the wheel fitted, just got to find some late spec GT clocks to go with it:

Also i have got this electric window switch. It was originally from a MK3 Golf cabriolet, and opereted the rear windows. It wont work straight away with the MK2 Golf lifters/motors i will eventually get, but can be made to. Just requires some wire and soldering. It will fit nicely in the dash under the stereo, and look very OEM :

On the subject of OEM. This lot arrived from germany for me earlier:

Electric Headlamp adjustment kit. All brand new except the switch, and some still boxed. All for £30 posted. Now to work out how it fits with no instructions. Oh what fun i'm going to have Hopefully its one of many accesories i will aquire. Back to German ebay i go....

Your E-Window´s Switch it the wrong one.

35i Pre Facelift is the way to go, It has got the diagonal lines, not the ripple optic.

Yes i am aware of the passsat switch :-) . Just it is so hard to find over here (i've never seen one) And this came at a good price. If i find a passat one in a scrapyard, i will use that instead.

Nearly forgot about this thread. No-one seems interested anyway, but heres an over due update :-D :

Hadn't really done alot since the last update until just after christmas, when i decided rather than things for myself, my christmas money was better spent on this. Cue the clear indicators, and a much cleaner looking front end:

Another ebay purchase at the same time were these blue side repeaters. They were only 99p, but i wasnt really sure about them when they arrived. But once fitted my un-certainty went away. Almost a colour match. pretty cool.

My door handle inserts were looking very tired, and a faded grey. My freind Mr satin black soon sorted that. Good as new:

I managed to get a decent parts haul a few weeks back, with plenty of stuff to bolt on to this and my other coupe. I went to look at a polo coupe that was breaking locally, and i found through facebook. Heres the haul that cost me a mere £20:

The guy also had a nice set of Genesis seats, and a GT steering wheel better than the one i already had. How could i refuse them at £40?:

This week i've been trying my hand at smoothing on the tool tray i got with the haul of parts. I decided it didnt need the lines or stickers they normally have, and i was a little bored. So heres the result:

Before; one scruffy tool tray:

During; filling lines, sanding smooth and primering:

After; all finished and sprayed satin black to keep the OEM look, but subtley different :

What does everone think? I think i made a good job of it :-)

I also primered my armour door plates, which also came with the parts above:

After; Nitromors stripped, sanded with wet n dry, ku rust, etch primer and grey primer:

I had a little bit of fun with a spare polo badge between all that painting above. I painted it in a special irridescent glitter laquer i had from a craft store. It looks pretty funky i think and the pic doesnt do it justice, it really sparkles The VW badge nearly went the same way, but i realised it was a genuine black badge and left it alone:

(I actually finished the armour door plates in satin black today, but haven't got a pic at the moment.)

Why buy new when you can refurbish old parts? I really enjoy giving scruffy things a new lease of life :-)

What do you mean a proper engine? Your welcome to come and fit a 16V in it for me if you want I may GT it when my insurance isnt raping me so much.

Had a little go at trimming as well. The Boot panel was the chosen item. Some spray glue and black acoustic carpet later and it was a job well done:

Even mangaged to get the back neat :-):

My upgraded wiring loom arrived from ebay a few days ago. When I've cleaned up the battery tray and the battery is back in, i will plug it in to try it. Then wrap it in the fabric loom tape that i also got from ebay To keep it looking OEM i even measured the width of the existing loom tape and got the same size (yes, i'm that sad ).
