  • Nice! Clocks look smart mate.

  • might buy it, lower it and re-sell it. I'll weld them lowering springs in too so it cannot be un-done easily

Its officially the end of an era folks. Watched this drive away from me and disappear into the distance today . Goodbye M386 JOA. And Goodbye Polo's. Its good that I got near enough the price I wanted

Yeah, i think its the perspex window and the bars that do it!

It has blue LED's inside too. I am wiring them up to a switch, so they come on when the boot opens. I wanted a boot light anyway :-)

Recent purchases/ things done:

Plastic boot sill trim:

Installed a switch in a spare parcel shelf support for the sub box lighting:

Amp came today. So i started wiring it in. Got most of it done, just need to find a permanent live feed for the sub box lights, run the earth, and trim some cables a bit:

New dice valve caps. Hopefully they wont be stolen. Blue glitter for daily use and funky clear ones with coloured inserts for meets and shows:

Dumped the crappy aero wipers (left hand drive fitment, so were on upside down and kept lifting at speed ) in favour of normal Bosch ones. Look better, and actually work:

Where'd you get the boulevard trim from?

From a mate. Sold his polo and kept it for me. Been after it for ages :-) Its a bit battered TBH, but i have one, and most people dont :-D

Edited by malaga red

First time your boot isn't full of crap!

It actually been empty since i got it on the road, apart from shopping and car boot sale and camping stuff at weekends. And their was never any 'crap' in my boot, it was all the nice parts that are now fitted, and loads of spares, some of which i've sold. Sold my lowering kit on saturday too. More funds towards my H&R springs. You haven't seen this in the metal yet have you. Worcester Volks meet this Saturday if you fancy a look ;)

Finished my wiring today, and got the interior back together. All working perfectly. Sub has some impressive kick for its size, i'm really surprised by it 8-)

Switch and LED's are wired up too, and come on when the boot opens. No pics yet though, as I had to clear the mess up (Tools and wires everywhere) and had a little play with the Headunit and amp settings. Then it was nearly dark. I'll put some pics up tommorrow :-)

Pics of the amp and sub all wired up. I think i made a very neat job of it. I've seen so many that have visible wires and more wires trailing across the boot and i didnt want that:

You can just about see one of the LED's in the pics, and the switch in the parcel shelf support in the top picture :-)

Looks good mate, They bright, I'd take some night shots bro!

  • Author

I'll take a night pic just for you mate, and post it up later :-)

Genuine hatred for you having that trim!

Keep an eye out for a better one for yours, then sell me this one, i dont mind it being battered :p

Got the pods today :) have a go at getting um fitted tomorrow or over next weekend (when I'm not at action :( )

Had aero wipers on mine before, they were crap! Bounced up the windscreen and made a right racket. Proper Bosh ones are the way forward!

Winner, wish i took the OEM+ plus route now, would of been a nicer route. Loving this malaga, lokks real nice :-)

real nice car man! love the colour. i like how your refurbing the old parts instead of just buying new, and then adding your own touch! the paint on that polo badge is quality!:)

Just keeping the thread where i can find it. No updates of late, but subtle lowering is coming soon. Its been to a few shows and meets and i've put about 1200 miles on it since july, and its handled quite a few long motorway trips easily, sitting at 70 (obviously i dont ever get up to 80 ;)). Its brilliant on fuel, which i was surprised by, as my last coupe (same engine) used to use more. Went from worcester to Bristol and back on £20 for the sweetshop meet. Went down to Vanwest in brean friday, cruised about a bit while there, and drove back sunday (stuck in traffic, stop and start) on £30.

Took it on to Brean sands, and got a nice pic. First time i'd driven on sand, it was getting a real wiggle on, thought i was going to spin it at one point

I have mentioned it before. Nothing too drastic, most people will hardly notice. Just 35mm H&R springs, along with new top mounts and bumpstops all round, and new bushes, possibly of the poly variety too tighten things up a bit :-)

Haha, Looks good Dan, Still need to send you that pic of the dash lights!!

Only fitted 6n door pins to this lately. I've been busy with my new 6n, which is taking my money and time away from this for the moment.

Got to start getting this prepped for winter soon. RA's will be coming off and maybe getting a refurb. So it will look a bit sorry on the standard sport raders :-(

one of my personal favourite colours for a mk3! shame they didn't go a GT/G40 in this colour! looking good though buddy :)

  • Author

Matt, the sport raders will be fine, they're only winters.

The only engine available in this colour was a 1.0 AAU, so didnt even do an AAV engine! Seen as g40 ad broke his G40 engined one of these, it may be time for another to appear, or maybe just a GT....... :-D

  • Author

Oh dear. Me with an empty engine bay and an accesible engine. The conversion would take a while i think! The Whole engine would be stripped down, degreased and cleaned and painted. The bay would be cleaned and polished before it went back in :-D

On another note. Its broken. Water pump is leaking badly at the pulley end :-(

  • Author

Water pump couldn't have failed at a worse time. Cant really do it myself, and it cant be fixed until next tuesday, but it will run out of MOT this wednesday. I'd totally forgot the MOT was so early in october, had it in my head it was the middle of the month. It cant do the test, as it loses water, and will overheat :x No car for me for a week then. Could have used the 6N if i swapped insurance, but that wont run properly and has no front end on it

with aero wipers you just pull the fitment off and turn it round :L

Yep german ebay. Theres alot of crap sets on there, and most sellers wont even ship outside of Germany, or accept paypal. Luckily i found a nice set, with UK shipping and paypal :-)

Next is Genuine electric windows that i should be collecting at the weekend. Then H&R lowering springs. Then headlamp washers, headlamp protectors and a Hella/ Votex spotlamp grille if i can get hold of them. Hopefully i can work out how my electric headlamp adjusters and heated washer jets fit/ wire up and get those working :-D .

I've tried a few bulbs, fuse is fine too.

fuse may look like its fine but the contact points if original copper ones may have coroded and may be stopping the current, had that problem on my gt, put a new one in and they worked, just a thought might not be that though obviously!

Just read this whole thread from day 1. What a turn out mate, looks lovely! I know you pick up a lot of parts for bargain prices but just out of sheer curiosity, how much money does this car actually owe you?

Cheers mate. I have no idea, and neither do i care how much it owes me  . I haven't really kept track of spending as I intend on keeping it for quite a while yet, so dont need to worry about losing money when i sell. Just to give a vague answer, i'd say its pushing £2k, as despite the bargains, i have paid a fair whack for some of the rarer parts on it, and for the stereo kit.

Mild lowering is coming soon. But as soon as i have a job/more cash, this project is going to phase 2. Full resto/respray to get rid of some of the surface rust and parking dents. Scirocco GT2 front seats. Half leather, retaining the stock centres with leather bolsters. Full stainless exhaust. Also, the engine may well be coming out to be replaced with something a little more pokey, as i've said previously. Well thats the plan anyway........
