6n engine cover and cone filter

May have to rethink the induction pipe tho, as the one on there is flexible and moves about too much when the filter is on.

A small problem with fitment of the engine cover:

The bracket touches on the pipe that goes from the expansion tank to engine, and kinks it badly, which obviously is no good

Seems theres no way around it other than cutting off one of the mounting points for the cover.

Cheers mate. I fitted it with the original brackets taken off the 6N engine. It wont fit any other way. All you have to do is unbolt the mk3 engine lift points, and replace them with the 6N ones, which also have the mounting points for the engine cover built in :-)

Just read this whole thread from day 1. What a turn out mate, looks lovely! I know you pick up a lot of parts for bargain prices but just out of sheer curiosity, how much money does this car actually owe you?

Cheers mate. I have no idea, and neither do i care how much it owes me . I haven't really kept track of spending as I intend on keeping it for quite a while yet, so dont need to worry about losing money when i sell. Just to give a vague answer, i'd say its pushing £2k, as despite the bargains, i have paid a fair whack for some of the rarer parts on it, and for the stereo kit.

Mild lowering is coming soon. But as soon as i have a job/more cash, this project is going to phase 2. Full resto/respray to get rid of some of the surface rust and parking dents. Scirocco GT2 front seats. Half leather, retaining the stock centres with leather bolsters. Full stainless exhaust. Also, the engine may well be coming out to be replaced with something a little more pokey, as i've said previously. Well thats the plan anyway........

This thread is 100% inspiring, infact so inspiring i decided to start doing a little bit to my car today but after you said how nice the stock ride height is I'm concidering keeping mine stock as i cant be arsed with all the un comfort but i wouldnt mind the looks tbh, hard decision, hmm. Same for me though, need to find some cash first!

I'll agree with the above, this thread is very inspiring, i regularly check it but haven't yet commented, probably because every time i see the new rare bits you've got i cry a little inside. (dam you for getting a ruddy boulevard boot trim )

100% Inspiring!? Yeah stock ride is so comfy compared to what i had on my old coupe, which was only 60/40 lowered.

Cheers mate. I dont like plastic arch trims, so not much chance of them appearing on here. All they're good for is rotting the arches quicker IMO. Its getting lowered 35mm with H&R springs :-) Oh yes, the boot trim..... Cost £4 that did :p. Prepare to cry a little more inside after seeing the below image :

Hella pimpin' :-D. Cant wait to get it on there. Got the wiring to sort out. as i like things tidy. 2 broken clips on the top, but it held on the previous owners car fine for several years. It wasnt cheap, but wasnt a silly scene price either. Lamp reflectors are both rust free, the right is a little better than the left, which has dulled slightly, but is overall a pretty nice example. It came in its original, but very battered box.

According to the pic on the box, Hella also did wheel trims and i'd quite like some, so the search is on now!

Starting to think my polo looks like a Hella brochure car :-D. Now, where can i find a Hella Rain-Tronic system these days.......

Seriously though, with the Hella grill, how should it be wired? Its something i really want (seriously regret not getting a cheap Votex one when i had the chance). I'm imagining a relayed loom switched by the high beam?

Fair enough on the arches, i love the contrast the black plastic gives especially against the bright colours, personal taste and all that. As long as every things de-rusted and kept an eye on i don't see the problem.

Headlight washers and protectors will finish it off nicely, if only i could find some . Your smack on about the loom mate. Its relayed, powered straight from the battery, and triggered by the high beam wire :-) Thats how it came originally i believe, but my wiring has been messed with a little, so i will be tidying it and running it alongside the headlight loom. I would have had a Votex last year, but the person who sold it me decided not to send it after i'd paid, and i had no way of getting back my postal order of £50

Should be a simple loom to make up then! It'd be cool to get a pic of the original loom, just to see where the relay should be placed (getting really sad now though ).

MOT today. It went straight through, with only a slight exhaust blow as an advisory :-D Had a new water pump, cam belt and fan belt aswell, so i'm now back on the road. Got the guy to have a look at my rear foglight while it was there, as it wasnt working and it needed it for the MOT. Turns out its a dodgy headlight switch, that if you wiggle it, the fog works. New headlight switch needed.

So, the rear fog works, meaning that...........

The front fogs work! Finally!! :-D

Also fitted a vibe fast plug into the amp wiring, so it can be un plugged and removed with ease.

Pretty happy at the moment. Hella grille going on next.

I didnt realise i'd seen yours until looking on here just. Didnt recognise it with normal bumpers and steels

No real updates for this. I've only added and removed stickers. I think its the longest time i have gone without buying anything for one of my cars. There just doesnt seem to be anything else i can (afford) to do to it. I think i'm starting to become bored of it

Not a massive update. Not really anything new added, but it does look a bit better. My bumpers have been looking rather grey and patchy for a while, as i haven't had the chance to put any trim gel on, and the rain just washes it away, making the bumpers all streaky. So i have waited until they went grey and all the useless trim gel was gone, before a trip to homebase for something that will hopefully last, and keep my bumpers black. Boiled linseed oil. I had heard (and seen) that this stuff works, so thought i'd give it a go.

A little added bonus that kind of made my day. I was only in homebase for 5 minutes, and came out to the car to find 2 people stood next to the car admiring it. They werent VW owners, or even car nuts, just amazed how good it was looking for its age, and complimented me on it. Just nice to be apperciated outside the car community :-D

Now i've compared the 2 pictures myself, it doesnt look much of a difference at all. This is down to my camera, which isnt very good. It actually made a big difference to the colour and shine. As good as any bumper black i've used and alot easier to apply. Only time will tell if it actually does the job.

I was really considering selling this late last year, but i've decided now that its not going anywhere. I just cant bring myself to get rid of it, mainly because of the fact that i will probabbly never find another like it, and it just has too many special bits. I am a little bored of the current look though, so need to make some changes to keep it fresh and keep me interested. What would peoples opinions be on a possible wheel change and 60/ 40 lowering? That seems to be the easiest way to change the look of the car completely.

Make the RA's 15" instead of 13"....

And lower it with quality suspension :)

The suspension will be a H&R kit which is over £300. I dont do cheapo stuff, as you all know from looking at this thread. For wheels, I'm looking for something 14" that nobody else has got. I think i've found some if they are still available and i can scrape some money together to get them. I like my RA's, but they are just RA's, and the most common size, 14", and are a pain to clean.

I like the RAs, low first, then maybe wheels?

Or sell me it because I want that colour car?
