Featured Replies

Keep them > colour code the bottom half of bumpers .. Gt arches and bump strips would look ace with the skirts still black imo :)

  • might buy it, lower it and re-sell it. I'll weld them lowering springs in too so it cannot be un-done easily

Its officially the end of an era folks. Watched this drive away from me and disappear into the distance today . Goodbye M386 JOA. And Goodbye Polo's. Its good that I got near enough the price I wanted

Cheers for the comments guys. I think i have decided what to do with them/ the cars other plastics. The skirts are a bit scuffed from storage, so i will have to paint them anyway.

I am down to 2 options (will happen when i get the car sprayed).

Option 1: Spray the skirts satin black or textured black. The bumpers blue on the bottom. Everything else as is.

Option 2: Remove the bump strips. Paint the skirts body colour. The bumpers blue on the bottom.

I am hopefully using this splitter from Rieger, which i will have satin or textured black. Opinions on it welcome:

Its not OEM, but i dont think there was an OEM splitter for the MK3, so it will have to do. I might even mod it a bit, as although its the only one i have found so far that i like, its not quite what i want. I am steering dangerously close to a '90's look here.

The 6N2 alloys have gone now too. Just the Corsa 3 spokes left to refurb now, but do i dare fit non VW parts, and for that matter 3 spokes....

je design splitter would look good, not as in your face as the rieger one, but very similar. bloody hard to get hold of though

With no disrespect that splitter is ugly! Will look nicer without one just personally don't think the mk3s suit a splitter in any shape or form

Side skirts will be good though good find

I'd rather have the JE one. But as you say, cant find one. They are still making the Rieger one, so is readily available.

Matt, I agree its not the best looking item. But its not ugly, its just not of the current trend. I dont really follow trends like a scene sheep (not aimed at you BTW), i just buy what I like, hence the side skirts, which i know some people who dont have a clue of their origin will think they are nasty fibreglass aftermarket crap and totally out of place on this car.

And as i said, i may be making some changes to the splitter to make it more subtle :-) Plus, its far better than a hacked up, ill fitted MK3 Golf splitter (or similair) that alot of people choose to have.

No progress made on this, but i have had a day of descisions :-) :

Skirts will be getting sprayed, as they are scuffed from storage, and i think there will be too much black, even with the half coded bumpers.

I have also found the period 'Votex' logo, so will be getting some small stickers made up for the back end of the skirts.

I am going to change the wheels, and step up a size to 15's. I shall be keeping with the OEM theme though and using BBS RX2 from a 6n2 GTI. My inspiration/ the reason i now want RX2's. Just look soooo right. Mine wont be fully polished though. Only the lips. Anyone got a cheap decent set for sale?:

I have also decided on a suspension height after looking at a load of polo's including the above, and seeing bugpolo's car on 15" wheels, sat at 70/50. I am going to drop mine 60/40.

Another thing i am thinking of is a bit of engine tuning. Inspired by a few tuned 1043's i have seen. I would like to go with a GT head and cam and a 1.3 spi throttle body.

And i am not sure if i want the rieger splitter anymore. I have seen a zender splitter that is much more rounded, and works much better and will suit the skirts better. Only problem is its as rare as the skirts so could take a while to find :-(. What it looks like:

^^ That looks horrible.

I love the car as is. If it was me i would fit the votex skirts and leave them black. Don't ruin a really cool, already rare car by fitting parts that look like something from a halfords clearance sale. Rare is good if the bits are worth having.....

Rest of it is top work. Car looks lovely.

What looks horrible? The zender splitter? Or the colour coded bumpers? Or both?

Oooohh. Tempting. Already split too, just a shame they are absolutely miles away, he wont post, and i cant afford the fuel to collect them :-(

Possibly a good buy dan? Auction still currently running and could be cheap with them having gash tyres!

show the world his possible bargain wheels so they are no longer bargains ;)

They will shoot up though, 8 days left is savage!

Wheels that offer postage rarely go cheaper then their true value.

Meh, could still be a decent buy.

Need a set that are fucked (in a finish kind of way) and to be super lucky with bolt removal.

Although you would want new bolts anyway if doing them to a high standard.

What i want is a set with no curbing, preferablly no tyres as whatever is on there would get chucked anyway. Just have to hope the bolts dont shear when i come to split them down. That already split down set is good as it has all the bolts out and is corroded but not curbed. I'd buy them if he'd post. That, or a already refurbed, mint set.

Where are they?

oh yeh, forgot to add. FUCKING LOWER IT!

Ahh!

Make the skirts black, colour code lower half of bumpers, keep the red stripe on them. Lower it 60/40 or 70/50 on the RAs and that's it. Done. Coolest polo in the Uk

^^^^ What he said.

x2- its soooooo clean!

Those split down rx2 are up near blackpool tobes. Not going that far for some wheels!

Coolest polo in the uk? Taking it abit far harris, but thanks :-D

Higgo, i'll happily swap you for a MK1.

Sam, your loon didnt look to bad yesterday either mate. Seems your in same situation as me. A few annoying little bits, but your onto a winner ;) .

14" RAs suit this so well.

Lowering it will literally transform the car.

Been cracking on with refurbing the 3 spokes. Got a second done today and the third in primer and last one mostly prepped. Heres the two finished ones. Satin antracite:
