That's a bit unfortunate mate, has it caused any damage to it? Scrapes or anything?

  • Nice! Clocks look smart mate.

  • might buy it, lower it and re-sell it. I'll weld them lowering springs in too so it cannot be un-done easily

your taking it back because the rubber snapped?? did they supply that?! why is it there fault :s

What's wrong with that? He's paid for a decent exhaust and it or it's mounting has failed in a very short space of time - id be taking it back too.

Been back this morning and its had a new rubber, the mounts adjusted so the rubber is not under so much tension (probable cause of the failure) and had all the joins sealed up again. Much happier now. Why wouldn't I take it back? I'm not paying for parts that they messed up on when I got it for free. It is there fault as they fitted it and it failed, its not like I caused any damage to it by scraping on things is it? If I was lowered I probably would have trashed the back box but my ride height saved it :-)

That's good then :) didn't know if it just hung down or fully fell down to the floor, if it had scraped it in sure you'd have made them replace the box too though - I would have anyway lol

Yep. If it had scraped it they would have been doing the back box again. Somehow it managed to hang on there on one rubber and not slip off the mount. Lucky escape really as it only bent the mount a bit and hung down about 2-3 inches. On another note would you actually buy this if I decided to sell it, as I have been considering it (again. Thought about it before but couldn't let go)?

As much as I like it - and would be jealous of the new owner, I think if I was gonna go through doing another car it would have to be a mk1/2 tbh mate

Right. Just feel the need to bump this thread. I think the decision to keep this rather than get a non polo is reason enough :-)

Been looking at MK2 Golf GTI's, but after dismissing almost every car available in my budget, going to look at a few I thought were good, and weren't I started to look at almost any other dub. Ended up going to see a Vento, with 45k on the clock, that had seat covers from new and absolutely no rust (yes a MK3 Golf platform car with no rust! ) I was all ready to buy, but he didn't want to end the auction 'it would run to the end'. So off I went to bid, to find he'd ended it. So gave up and decided to keep the polo :-D

Nothing new added as was so set on selling, but heres some nice pics I took for the sale ad that never was:

Don't know why I ever thought about selling, must have gone temporarily insane, as don't think I could ask for a better car than this. Ok its starting to get a few rough edges bodywork wise, but its nothing that cant (eventually) be sorted. Mechanical wise its spot on and has wanted for nothing really. Just rolled over to 90k last Saturday and have already done another 350 miles. 325 miles was racked up in two days last weekend. Plenty more miles to do before the show season ends :-)

Got so many plans spinning round my head for this, its just finding the money to act on them that's the hard part!

Just had an offer accepted on another set of rims, so pics coming when I've picked them up ;)

Not worth selling it mate you'll regret it been there and then bought it back. Get a daily if you fancy something different for abit, although this will seem like a different car (in a good way) when lowered even like 30-40mm ;) hahaha

Glad your keeping it. This vento was it a 1.6 dark blue or black from bristol?

Did I hear lowering kit

New wheels. Votex 'VW Design' Picked them up last night 8-) .

These were an option in the 1980's for the MK2 Golf and are genuine VW parts, made by Ronal, for Votex, VW's own accessory brand. They are quite rare and came with 9 centre caps. The original ones and 4 much better ones, plus an odd one with the Votex logo. Spokes are actually VW logos which is pretty awesome. Only damage is the corrosion, no buckles or curbing, not bad for 28 year old wheels. They should go well with my Votex side skirts :-)

They need a refurb and will be done properly to original finish. I will be getting them Re diamond cut.

Wheels look cool man.

Just get them on aha and lower ;) Jokes.

I was wondering about the Vento as a lad from my town had it removed from ebay and payed £800, well worth around 1.2k!!

He's had it like what barely a week and look at it now.

BOOM!

Sorry for photo boming!

are those the votex wheels a guy near witney was selling? they had been up for sale for ages!

  • Author

I got them from Stonesfield, which is near Witney. I only saw them on ebay last week for the first time. If I had found them earlier I would have bought them earlier :-) Such a good set of rims. Probably the straightest wheels I have ever bought :-) .

they look awesome

Dented down drivers rear quarter/ arch :tear::disgust:

Not happy. If you have me on facebook there is a pic. Cant be bothered to put it up here as the more I look at it the more annoyed and depressed I get. Just got the insurance down to a reasonable price too.

Dunno why you would go through insurance. No way around it?
Will cost you massive in the long run doing it through insurance. and they will more than likely write it off anyway

Did you not read his Facebook Toby?

Unlucky Dan, luckily damage to yours isn't too bad, only the rear 1/4 isn't it?

How are you going to do the wheels? Or is progress stopping whilst you see what happens?

  • Author

Toby cant read. I didn't hit a stationary object... It was car versus car, so no choice with insurance. They cant do anything to the car as i'm only TPFT, not fully comp. All progress will stop mate until this is sorted. Wheels may have to wait until next year now as got to spend the money I was saving to do them repairing the damage and getting that side resprayed.

Wheels will be getting re diamond cut faces/ caps with the rest going black. So basically will look like they do, but not corroded.

Ofcourse theres a choice.. depending on if both parties are willing to go around insurance

Some people don't have the money to pay to repair more expensive cars though Eric,

Tough luck mate, but at least your damage isn't too bad

Just seen the picture mate, Hope you get it sorted soon!

Shame about damage mate, hope it all gets sorted soon!
