Got my new aeriel for this today. Its an OEM part, made by Bosch and was factory fit on MK3 polo's. I'm not calling it rare, but there cant be that many left that are on their original aerials? An ebay bargain at £3:

And finally some wheels. They dont officially belong to me at the moment, but i did own them for a few days after buying them for £50 from a car boot sale, as my mom had no cash and wanted them for her MK1 Golf. Shes never used them, so i'm hopefully buying them back soon.

BBS RA's in 14". They are still in their factory finish and very good condition, with a few chips. Two have a little curbing but not much. I also have all the centres but they were badly corroded, so had been sprayed green to match moms golf, so will need doing again. The tyres are all dead, but would be to big anyway. Heres the wheels, nothing more classic for a MK3 than RA's IMO :-):

Made a start on my exhaust yesterday. Took my new standard backbox and a hacksaw, resulting in this:

Chopped off the standard tailpipe, leaving about 1 1/2 inches of it:

I had ordered a chrome diesel style exhaust tip from ebay, which will be fitted to the backbox like this:

The tailpipe is too long, so will be trimmed down to just over half its length. The back box will then be tucked as high as it will go, so i have a hidden tip. Centre box will be coming off and a straight pipe welded into it. Then the whole system will be painted in high heat paint :-)

Well, i like the exhaust, i think . Will have to see when i get it on there. The only other option at the moment, due to budget, is the 4 inch barry big bore off my white one, and this has gotta be better than that?!

The plan for today, was to re fit all my powdercoated parts, the rad, hoses etc. Fill it with coolant and start it for the first time in nearly 3 weeks. Also fit my areial and clean under the arch that side. But no, it wont all be done, as its bloody rained!

Swapped the cam covers and fittted a new gasket. Before and after pics:

Some of its been cleaned off now . Still alot of dirt everywhere, Caked on waxoil is a real pig to shift, as is baked on oil, but i'll get rid of it all eventually. I'd like to take the engine out, degrease, clean and paint the block etc. and put it back, but dont want to be getting into that, as i would be tempted to GT it

Anyway. Carried on regardless of the rain, and got soaked again. But all the parts are now fitted:

I also made my own radiator retaining bolts, as they werent available in stainless. I cut down 2 allen head bolts to the right length, and ground the end to a point. Didnt expect them to do the job, but they work perfectly :-)

Done for the day now. Tommorrow will be filling with coolant and some cleaning under the arches, and fitting the aerial...... Hopefully

AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Just filled it with coolant, and it started pissing out the heater box i fitted. Fantastic . So out it all came again. and turns out the heater matrix had gone, something the scrap yard failed to point out. And highly annoying, as i knew my heater matrix was fine, and almost swapped it out, but as the heater unit was fairly new, decided not to bother. Wishing i had now

All fine now though. Fresh coolant and started it for the first time in ages :-)

Cheers mate. The air intake is off a MK3 golf SPI, 1.4 or 1.6. You have to be careful though, as there are several types and some of them dont fit properly. The vacuum pipe is the small clear pipe right? It has to be blanked off with a bit of rubber hose with a small screw in the end.

Its not exactly the same but the fitting kit is the same. Its quite a nice filter and AP motorstore are a good seller.

I did a little more to this between the showers today.

I had a good find at the car boot sale on sunday morning. A NOS genuine Hella High level brake light, that was made in 1993, so bang on period! It also has a part number with 'VAG' in it on the box, so may have been purchased from a VW dealer originally. It cost just £1:

I actually started the job of fitting this on sunday, but didnt get very far. On sunday i only managed to fit the black trim/sticker to the screen. I finished the job today and ran the wires and wired it all up.

Ran the wiring along the top of the rear screen, in the gap between the glass and metal of the tailgate. Then i pushed it through the hole for the heated rear window, and fed it through the rubber tube into the car:

Cut into the brake light wire and stripped the insulation and fitted a spade connector to both sides and pushed them into the wiring block that came with the High level. Then cut the cable for the High level to length and fitted a ring connector to the earth and another spade to the power and joined that to the connector block.

Stuck the brake light to the rear screen, over the black sticker i fitted earlier, checked all is well and working and fitted the plastic cover. Can you Spot the wiring? Didnt think so!:

All finished and fitted. Looking very OEM :

Also robbed my dads MK2 Golf of its first aid kit bracket/ strap. Its the wrong bracket as only one of the screws can be used, but once the first aid kit is in it cant move about much.

Another part from my dads MK2 Golf. He had a boot light spare, so i am going to fit it to the polo (just placed on the polo part below) along with a switch:

Added this sticker, to remind me the date i want it finished for. Ticket is booked, with this cars reg number. I better pull my finger out!:

Not much of an update but got some VW II calipers. When they arrived this morning they looked like this, and came with the cooling wings/ shields and bolts:

Heres what one looked like after a meeting with the wire brush. There was about 6 layers of paint :

Comparison with the untouched one. I made a start on that, but then it rained:

I am going to clean off all the old paint, spray them black, and fit new seals. Then fit them to my standard carriers, which i will also re-furb.

My numbers are 216 213 on one side and 216 214 on the other. Looks like yours have raised lettering? Mine have stamped lettering. It looks like my thread is straight rather than tapered, but i'm not sure. I hope they fit, but it will be a while before i find out, as i want to refurb them first, as i have many other things in front of these in the queue!

Well todays job was supposed to be fitting the aerial. But i couldnt move the car away from the wall, so decided to swap out the broken parcel shelf support. That job kinda snowballed into a complete gutting of the rear interior . I kept pulling things off, and either something else was in the way, or i thought 'i may as well take that off'

The mess destuction on the lawn. The contents of the boot and interior:

Goodbye horrid grey rear carpet, door cards and seats!

Stripped out, and hoovered:

Fitted the black (ish) wheel arch carpet sections:

Took up the rear carpets and there was no sound deadening, just alot of compost, and a dead bug. So cut some fresh stuff to size:

Gave my black carpet a clean and hoover, and fitted the rear section. Looks so much better than the manky grey in the front:

And finally moved my genesis seats, from the living room, wher theyve been for the past few months, into the car. Only the drivers seat is on its runners/ bolted down (so i can move the car), others are just placed in, as i have the front carpet to fit and door cards when i get some:

It already looks like a much nicer place to be inside the car. The genesis seats are so much better than the standard pale grey, which looked dirty. I'm on the lookout for some mint scirocco GT2 front seats, for that OEM look (the reason i got genesis seats :-) ).

Finaly got the aerial fitted today, and did a bit more cleaning.

I tryed to remove the front wheel to do this job, but 2 of the bolts are either massiveley over tightened, or seized. I put my full 12 stone on them, and they didnt budge, the tool just kept jumping off. Looks like i need an impact wrench or a windy gun, neither of which i have, or can get to as the car cant be driven on the road. A real pain, as i was going to lower it, and change the front brakes.

Anyway, back to the task. I jacked it up and removed the wheel arch liner, and the old aerial. Goodbye manky snapped aerial:

Then, while i had the car in the air, and arch liner out, i thought i may as well clean out the arch. Also gave the arch liner a scrub:

Fitted the new aerial. Much better :

Just got the other front arch to clean out now. And try and get a huge breaker bar to get those wheel nuts off.

Doing a great job man, I need to do my dials and that haa :)

dont think I've ever posted on this thread. The attention to detail is awesome, I've got 5days off work from tomorrow (mainly to sort my car out need garage)
