Not much to speak of happened lately. Although i have managed to get the front section of carpet in, and am onto some doorcards for it. Carpets arent fixed down yet, as i need to run the wires for my sound system. Just incase anyones interested my sounds are:

Kenwood headunit, with 3 4.0v preouts, and loads of settings to play with. Kenwood componenet speakers up front, in audioscape door builds, with custom tweeter pods in door cards. These will be running off a vibe litebox amp under the passenger seat. I'm thinking one of these for the boot for the time being:

I also cleaned the drivers side arch out, and it looks like the other one now :-) Hopefully this nasty weather will bugger off and i'll get something done.

For the sake of £150 i'd save the money mate. Buy my big bang 12" :p

Yeah, but i like the idea of the space i save. I have a proper sub, but atm i cant be arsed building the box in the side of the boot for it, i just want bass and space :-)

Well, not much to report lately. Weather has been so crap, i've not really got anything done. Ideally it would have been lowered by now, and the interior finished. But no .

Some small things have got done though. I finally found a set of genesis door cards, and i managed to get the rears fitted yesterday on the only rain free day. Also got some decent parcel shelf supports and got those fitted too, but i've manged to lose ALL the screws for them.

Also fixed the height adjuster on the drivers seat, and the recline, both of which were broken.

Got some NOS OEM optional floor mat badges, and have the floor mats to fit them too, on the way. Won a single headlight protector for the left side on ebay, for 99p. Anyone got a right side?

Should be ordering some fogs soon, from germany, and maybe some OEM polo 'style' wheel trims with gloss black centres, to fit on GT steels (which i dont have yet).

I'll get some pics up soon of the progress/ new additions when the last of this batch of purchases arrive.

If you're going for OEM(ish) steel wheels, have you considered 6N steels? They seem to fill the arches well on the earlier polos like these. :)

I already own a set that cost £15 with 4 nearly new goodyears on They are fitted to my other MK3, but the trims i want wont fit them properly or i would be using them.

Or i could stop being such tight wad and get some decent tyres for my RA's

Some new pics as promised. Its been a while.

Picked up some Thule roof bars last weekend. These are now the third item of roof furniture i have. The others are a 60's/ 70's desmo roof rack thats been restored and polished, and some desmo roof bars, from the same period. I felt neither of those would suit the OEM styling of this, so got these instead. Put them on today :

And a pic of the whole car. I think i may be getting old, as i'm quite liking the look of the stock height at the moment. And its definately more comfortable! Thinking about getting some G40 springs, to keep even the lowering OEM, as they're 20mm lower from factory. What are peoples thoughts? Am i being stupid by not slamming it?

Then i found these OEM mats listed on here. They arrived this morning, and are in very good condition:

Yellow front fogs are on the way (loom under construction) :-D. So are genuine hella smoked side repeaters. That completes my OEM lighting set up.

Also got some sound deadening sheets for the doors and floor.

They're all pointy and shizz, how much they set you back? £5?

ALOT more than that, they are impossible to get second hand, but i got them brand new. For £25. Yes, £25 for side repeaters! But as i said, i am willing to pay the extra £15 or so to get OEM ones, rather than the crappy ebay ones that dont fit properly (and break when you take them off) :-)

^Cheers mate! I've always been one for details, but it can be curse, as well as blessing. If i wasnt so pedantic this would possibly be done already!

Decided to have a better go at my exhaust after work today. If you look through the thread you will see i chopped most of the tail pipe off a brand new standard back box, and bought a chrome diesel style tip for it.

Today I cut the chrome tip to about half its original length. So that it will clear the bumper when i tuck the exhaust up higher. Then 2 broken drill bits later , drilled a small hole in the tip, and in the exhaust itself, so i could screw the tip on. Now looks something like this :):

I will be painting the exhaust black before i fit it (apart from the tip). So it looks a bit better, and lasts longer. I admit, this exhaust is a bit marmite, but i like it, or at least i do at the moment, but i will see when i get it fitted.

This current weather is awesome . Just wish i had ordered all the rest of the stuff i need for this, so i could take advantage of it more!

New discs, pads, anti rattle clips, exhaust rubbers and wiper blades ordered. Bought a black trim for the rear number plate recess.

Not quite as good as yours on the Genesis mate! I am thinking about polo show. But i haven't booked it yet.

fitted a few bits, and ordered a NOS sticker for the tailgate (the 3 coloured stripes), so that if i have the car painted i can re instate it. On the lookout for the parade side decals now. Fogs still haven't turned up. But, discs, anti rattle clips, wipers, exhaust rubbers and boot trim have.

Fitted the wipers as soon as they came. And fitted the boot trim today:

Didnt make a bad job of it, but its a real pig to fit, so is slightly wonky, and i had a few bubbles to deal with. Also swapped the boot plinth for a better one i had, while it was off.

Picked up my new rims yesterday. Artec RH cups, 14x6.

Nice bit of dish to them, ripe for polishing. Not sure what colour to do the centres yet, as they do look good silver, but i was thinking antracite? Any suggestions?

Couldnt resist a quick test fit today, seen as the car was jacked up anyway (i know its ridiculously high ):

Also fitted my exhaust. After i did my other coupes exhaust, i said never again, as it was a hard slog lying under the car for a couple of hours, fighting with seized clamps and rusted joins, and that one had been off before! This one hadnt, for a while, and was even more stubborn. Ended up removing the entire system, as it was easier to seperate the centre and back boxes off the car.

But i did it, and i'm almost happy. It fits and looks how i had imagined, but its blowing from the joints, despite the paste :rolleyes: so may end up coming back off.

Certaintly are. Best for any 80's /90's VW. My Dads had a pair on his MK2 Golf for years. I really dont get why people bother with the cheap nasty ones.

Getting closer to the road now. New standard discs and ebc ultimax pads fitted on saturday. Cleaned up the calipers and carriers with a wire brush. Not too bothered though as i will be fitting VW2 calipers anyway. One of the disc brake screws was completely rotten, and the head just crumbled, so had to grind another slot into it. While the front wheel was off, tried one of my rims on the front:

Once the brakes were done i gave it its first wash since buying it. And then gave it a polish. It came up very well, Autoglym super resin polish FTW!:

My fogs still arent here, but i have been in touch, and they should be here this week :-D. So i took the time to start making a loom on sunday. Ignore the green tape, as it will be wrapped in loom tape before fitting:

I need to fit the connectors for the fogs, and solder on the connector for plugging in to the car.

This came today. Genuine polo first aid kit bracket. Replaced the incorrect MK2 Golf one that i had:

Thats all for the moment. All thats left on the mechanical side is the lowering kit, and then the fuel tank. Hopefully i'll get some tyres soon and can get the RH cups on.

A small update to behold!

Spent a long afternoon/ evening on the polos on Wednesday (my Birthday!). I stripped the front interior out of my white coupe so i could access the stereo system/ amp wiring. Disconnected and removed the amp and wires. Then i took out the headunit. Then replaced the seats, trim and carpets. I then took off the door cards, to access the mirror adjuster retaining nuts and removed the mirrors. Carried everything over to this, ready for fitment. Then i fitted some dash speakers, and wired a new stereo to the white one so it still has sounds, and fitted standard door cards and mirrors (White polo is For Sale on here now).

Then i moved over to this and started by fitting the mirrors. I had already removed the old mirrors, and i have sound deadened the doors. Heres my new mirrors fitted:

They look even better on this than they did on my other MK3. NOS Early MK2 mirrors FTW!

Next i fitted the door cards, complete with Audioscape door builds, kenwood components and my home brew custom tweeter pods. The first time in several months its had door cards. Note the pimp OEM passat window winders :

Hopefully i will be wiring up all the stereo soon, and bolting in the back seats, fixing the carpets and trim in and the interior will then be finished :-D

Oh, and STILL haven't got my fogs! Getting very annoyed with VW Heritage now
