Love this, needs a nice set of period alloys. Happy you didnt chop the front panel like half the people would do on here!

Well tried a battery on it this morning, and nothing, tried another battery and even less, then stole a battery from my other working polo and she fired up first time :-) Then off to the MOT station,

First time i've ever seen another mk1 polo/derby on the road.. i couldnt believe my eyes :retard::lol:, assuming that was you earlier anyway

looked really clean in the 2 seconds it was in sight... ignore how dirty mine was, a lorry made me drive into some mud down some country roads earlier, not usually that bad :-D

I was quite shocked to see another mk1 too, hence coming on here to look for it :-)

Didn't look dirty at all, they really do look good in white :-)

Thanks for the comments, it does need a good clean (its clean, but not really clean, if that makes sense) lowering, my new wheels fitting and a paint job :-) working my way through the list!!!!

Thanks for that, appreciate it :-)

Lost the classics already, as they were rubbing, arches are being rolled soon, it's current running some le casstles (or however you spell them)

Got some special rims going soon, they are going off for a refurb and new custom dishes next week and tyres are on order

One thing I didn't want to do was cut the shell up (its original with little surface rust, but does need paint) Kam was the same when he owned it, hence the rotrex, but that didnt work out. The GT engine although nothing special does the job and keeps it straight at the front and is perky enough for now.....

Still been looking into engine swaps though for a little more go :-)

Phil J has been talking about turboing it, with a custom offset manifold, but I have been looking into the 16v conversions. Might just clean up the GT engine though, and do a few more bits to it :-)

Beautiful example.

Well not updated this in a while, been enjoying the car too much, but problems are mounting as well as a few big buy's

So quick wash this morning, wasn't really dirty, but i like cleaning.....

As she started

NIce cold start, frosty..... Quick snow foam

IMG_4203.jpg

Came back thinking my windscreen had cracked, thankfully the snowfoam had just refrozen!!!

Rinsed

Almost didn't need anything more, but still gave it a wash, and then a quick layer of AB pure gold, looking clean in the sun:

IMG_4215.jpg

Now think it needs a new fuel tank, which is a pain, mk3 ones don't fit and mk1 ones are hard to find. If i go down the mk3 route, need to fit a new handbrake mech, which means welding..... then how far do i go???

I have started collecting panels ready for the time it needs them too....

Also purchased some new wheels, which are great, and then the bodywork lets the car down..... so where do i start....

Complete resto over the winter?? And how far do i then go??

  • 2 weeks later...

you can never really say how far someone should go! dont you have other projects?

get the tank done- it will be upgrade ready then, and a quick tidy up and blow over aint going to take that long!

  • Author

Well new tank means welding in a mk3 handbrake mech, and whilst under car with tank off might as well tidy it up, rear beam will have to come off anyway.

Then if I am gonna stick my BBS's on the outside needs sorting, might as well do it properly.... Then paint the bay, whilst the engine is out for the bay (bit of paint that really annoys me) might as well drop a nicer lump back in there....

It just snowballs :-( I feel like time is wasted as I never did it properly in the first place!!!

Yes have a few other projects too, being my mk2 G40, which I have most parts for now, when the diff arrives, and the daily mk3 :-)

It just snowballs

always does man haha.

lovely car.

Do you still have the meth kit hanging around dude? I'm looking for one thats all.

Looks incredible this always wanted one, so special in that colour

  • Author

Yes still got the meth kit, keeping it for the mk2 G40 though, just in case

You know ATP still do mk1 tanks through ebay for £110 posted riiight..? Not cheap, but more ideal than fabricating a handbrake carrier for a mk3 tank to fit

Thanks for the info, but will probably still go for a mk3 tank, as i run injection anyway, it makes sense, and if i change the engine, that will the new engine will suit the later style tanks.

I have heard its not too bad a conversion, just need to remove the current mech, cuts out quite well and then weld in the new one, not difficult but means the interior needs to be removed and also the tank and rear axle so whilst that lot is out, makes sense to sort things out properly :-)

Gives me a chance to check out the floors and sills.

Hows your rebuild coming along?

Yeh I suppose it makes sense, good conversion to do for the future for sure... it really does look great, seen it around a few times now :)

Eeerm, it's not going too bad... A bit slow at the moment but should get more done soon, just can't wait to get all the welding out the way..

Well not updated this in a while, due to laying this car up for the winter. Over the summer of use it had developed a few faults and I was having trouble locating parts to fix it.

So a few parts finally located and my wheels refurbed ready for this year :-)

So first up replacement ignition switch, which only took 5 months to find :-(

Unfortunately I had to take the dash out to replace this, what a pain

IMG_4481_zps6feb1777.jpg

IMG_4480_zps5561267a.jpg

Took this opportunity to remove the old non working radio and speaker, and tidied up bits behind the dash.

Had some door cars with door pockets, which had provisions for some speakers, so

and fitted to the car, but no pics as I ended rushing things with family and trying to get the car on the road for Early Edition

So the car need wheels and I had found some BBS's a while back and sent them to Mike to fix.

Specs are BBS RS in 14" custom 2" dishes by Mike making them 7" wide with a ET of about 23

Tyres on

Oh :censored: again....

Ok 3rd set of wheels then......

And they fit!!!!

Play with some spacers in the rear

So needs tidying, cleaning and also dropping!!!!

Day out at Early Edition

IMG_4484_zps2806d03f.jpg

Now to iron out a few problems and then take the car forwards, got a few things planned and parts being picked up

Nice looking Derby, and with a cool blue interior :-D

Those BBS rs's look amazing, I take it your gonna go with them?

if you dont go with the wheels then we need to talk;-)

good to see this getting some love- give me a shout if any help is required on anything mate- including getting those wheels to fit. i can shorten you an axle if you need rear space and I'm sure theres stuff that can be done to the front aswell

KiZ

Thanks for the kind words.... Not to sure on the RS, might put them on the project car, been looking at other wheels for this and some different schmidts or maybe some HTN's if they can do the right offsets

Probably could get them to fit, but always looking for wheels

Been busy buying more parts for the rebuild today and more coming next week :-)

Kiz might take you up on the offer of help, need to get the front lower and it's either golf coilovers or bags..... Or both :-)

So nice!

That looks tidy as =D definately needs to be on the RS's ;)

sweet . What size are the last wheels you fitted ..

14s ?

Love them :)

Thanks for the comments, might try with the RS's or just get some different wheels, save them for something nice

I really like them too, car originally come with them in 13's which are too small, took me a while to find these ones, which are 14" by 5.5 or 6..... running 175/50's on them i think which are rather pricey :-(

  • 1 month later...

Saw this at edition with I guess you and Kiz. I tried to talk to Kiz but was ignored! You were talking about tipex on the wheel arches or some shite

Looking good though. Would really love one of these at some point, especially with the scroll ended bumpers

not deliberately ignored, i didnt know you were there!!! sorry

That's alright, I was kidding. You looked deep in conversation and we were moving on any road.

This car looks nice :-)

Ha ha, was a serious conversation about finding out where there is some rubbing!!!

Still haven't got to the bottom of it, mind the car hasn't moved from the drive since!!!

Mot time next week I think!!!
