Evening folks,

Basically had my car off the road for a few weeks doing an engine conversion, its now ready to get back on the road.

I SORNed the car as there was no insurance on it but still loads of tax.

Can I "unSORN" the car as it were, saving me having to buy a new tax disc or do I have to send the old one off for a refund and buy a new one.

There is literally nothing anywhere on the DVLA website, and this is going to cost me a months tax if its the case

Once you sorn a car your supposed to send the tax back to be refunded on whole months left. When the car is returned to the road you need ti re-tax it.

This is how the dvla explained it to me. Mum got fined for having an uninsured but taxed car last month so had this discussion. (Car was parked off road at my workshop the entire time)

It's just another way for the government to take in a few extra quid from innocent tax payers.

But yeah the only way to lift a SORN is to buy a full 6 or 12 months tax.
