6n2 bbs split rim refurb

Featured Replies

Hi I am new to this forum and only had a couple of posts.

I am trying to refurbish a set of bbs split rims for my polo gti. I tried getting the screws out but they were jammed in, now I had ruined a couple of the threads and cannot take the wheels apart!

Is there an easy way of taking them apart without chewing the thread.

Also,

I tried using a wire brush on a drill, and also just bought liquid paint stripper but neither worked and now they look a complete mess!

Can anyone recommend how to strip the paint off? and whether sand blasting is a good idea? if so can anyone recommend anyone near potters bar?

I would like to spray the wheels the same colour as the car but I am not sure what silver it is as there is quite a few under the FAQ page. It is a Polo GTI 6n2 year 2000. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

the bolts are a right pain to get out!

maybe try tapping the next size up tool into the head of the bolt.

or CAREFULLY drilling the head of the bolt off, then winding the rest out with molegrips.

or use an eazy out.

would recommend getting the centres blasted..maybe the rest too, jut depeends on opolished lips etc

I've just split a set of 5. the key to the success is to use an impact driver (the type you hit with a hammer, not a powered version)

as for stripping the paint, try and get them acid dipped as sandblasting can leave a pimpled surface.
