mk2 polo wont start

Featured Replies

its a 1983 1093cc engine in a mk2 breadvan GL on 35k

driving the car yesterday and it stalled at a junction after reluctantly starting it fired up and got me about 1.5 miles before i parked up.. after returning to the car i had nothing coming from the engine it was turning over but not even trying to start.. tried bump starting it and nothing again

it recently had a service - 200 miles ago and had new leads, cap, rota, plugs and condensor, checked everything properly and nothing to report

i checked the points and they were a little low so have changed them

then changed the coil to a new bosch unit

still nothing working, have checked the battery and all fuses etc - and am totally cooked on what to do next

do you have fuel??

I ran one of these engines a while back and had a similar issue...

I'd start off by checking its not a clogged up fuel filter or line, it could also be that the mechanical fuel pumps gone.

It turned out that mine was cutting out due to the dodgy pierberg carb ( these are renound for playing up)

These are just a few possibilties but I hope it helps you out!

yeah I've got fuel :)

and fuel lines and filters are all new too - I'm not getting spark off the plugs which is the issue fuel inlet isnt a problem, is there anything that could have interupted the power to the coil at all?`

Coil itself could have given up, or one of the wires feeding it corroded

brand new coil on there now as i thought thats where my issues lied,

I've had my battery on charge all evening and its not full charged which is odd so guess it could be related, strange that the engine was turning over easily with it, but no spark, need to test a second battery to see if that will solve the problem

tried jumping it off another car and that failed too so I'm totally boggled :(
