After recently selling my polo to buy a daily and save for a project, i've noticed that it is going to cost quite a bit lol

I was just wondering how others pay for it?

Like, do you work hard and save hard for it, or has anyone taken out a loan?

I'm curious about the loan idea, because i really want a mk1 polo, but i want to restore it completely apart from putting a bigger lump in it lol..

Also whilst on the subject, don't spose anyones got any before and after pics of their mk1'.. super interested in the oics if so

avoid taking out a loan, at all costs.

projects will invariably sap up spare cash, as unexpected bits come up and you dont want to pay out for something which you might not keep. just save up your dollar in a big kitty and keep an eye out for a decent one.

if you do need a loan, try and get it through a family member who can offer very low or little interest, they may be prepared to help you, if its a hobby. saves you getting pissed and they will know your not up to mischief!

I just work really stupid hours every so often.

From tomorrow i will be working 6pm till 8am every night Sunday to Friday and also every other Saturday. Got that all the way up till xmas.

But after that i will be practically free January + February (And my work still pay me!) so i can play with my cars to my hearts content and throw silly £££ at them haha

If your considering the credit card route, there are loads of interest free ones up to 24mths as long as you pay a minimum monthly. Used one of those a few years ago for my HGV licence's.

Same here, other way is to buy and sell a bit, break cars for spares, buy broken cars mend them and sell them. I used to do this a fair bit and it paid for the unit space, downside is it takes up the time and space the project wants. Seem to have lost my momentum a bit this year with it though.

^ I deal a little, mainly alloys, refurb them whilst watching tv and its easy money.

Also, if the part you want isn't urgent, research prices abit before spending.

Exactly, there's so many people spend more than they have to because it's what everyone does. My bready's a majorly long term project when I consider what it needs done, but the only parts I've actually bought are rear brake cylinders (£18 the pair) and the lowerring kit (£115 new). Everything else has come off cars I've broken for parts or by way of swaps.

Save up over time and buy things along the way that are needed. Few extra hours at work here and there, and some machining done for mates on the side pays for most of it.

Also selling all my other possessions lol.

Smashing the hours when they're there and not going out everyweekend on the piss. I buy beer and consume with friends. Sometimes whilst working on project/s.

A bit of repair work and small welding jobs help pay for the beer. You gotta hustle!

Brum no matter what bullshit people say they do to fund their projects, the truth is that most of the people on here do 'favours' for stuff. It's a VERY close nit community

Tbh I wait till I see a car I'm looking for in decent nick at a decent price and like previously said don't pay over the odds for parts. Also waiting till you can get panels and exterior parts ine the same colour to save on prep and pain work helps

Get the misses to subsidise me lol. I just stopped spending money on shit and thought id use it for something better, ie. other shit(scirocco). Plus i have a 2g student overdraft :p
