Living like a tramp is what i do best. I spend more on workwear than i do on casual clothes. But then I'm either at work or working on cars 80% of my "free time".

Why don't you get a project and not have a daily so you could save or spend more on the project, that's what I'm doing. Tbh though I'm lucky as I walk to work in 5 min and borrow my fiances moms car most weekends or if needed in the week as she only lives around the corner, plus for me to be on her insurance is only £20 a month

Jesus, thats a Cush set up. I have to run a daily, pay toward a mortgage, pay insurance, fuel etc. But then I don't spend a lot else.

It's about priorities. A hobby is never worth taking a loan out for. sounds like you need a lesson in budgeting. Plus Over 2K for insurance? What do you drive? I've never paid over £350. Admittedly thy have been old polo's except the current 9n. But that's why I've had the money to spend on projects. I'm afraid it's not a case of having your cake and eating it

Exactly prankstar, you can't have it all. My current project is a rover 200, not very good but it will be when I've got it looking how I want and swap engines to a more reliable honda one. I suppose I do have it easy atm but when my 9n was messing around and was at my old job I cycled 40 min there and back. It was horrible, hence why I found a closer job, was just extremely lucky to find one so close

I've got 3 clean years but I'm still paying £138 a month on a 1.3 MK3 breadvan... Paying more this year on that than i did last year on the coupe with engine mods

Indeed, i was insuring a 2 door coupe 1986 325i with all kind of mods, arbs, shocks, fuel tank, bushes etc, etc for £899 a year, swapped it to my polo GT and flux want £650 a year, for a 1.3 fwd turd!!! Thats with 3-4 years (can't remember) ncb as well.

Iv insured G's for similar money!!

My mk1 golf though with all mods (and even a roll cage if i want) is £240 a year with flux And i can drive this fecker a hell of a lot quicker than the polo GT, except in a straight line!

I do pay other bills, too, like my phone bill, house keep, cigarettes and i have to pay for the internet as i'm the only one who uses it..

But i do agree with the whole pub thing.. I don't normally get hammered, just have a pint or two, things like that are too expensive these days for what they are.

Although.. At the moment, i have my eye on a MK1 Polo up at my local scrap yard, i'm going to go and have a chat with the owner, as he fishes with my dad, see what can be done

I'm just paying for parts when i can, doing the actual work takes up loads of time, i found that if i get bits on payday and can fit them or do other work whilst i wait for the next pay day :)

I could name 3 things that you could help on already.

Drink at peoples houses, take turns at hosting and have abit of a gaming sesh too.

Smoke less or smoke roleys as they are cheaper. as I'm sure you'r aware.

If so thats gotta be £20 a month? then when you need updates for your programs pay the library or internet cafe to use facilities and off you go. just use it as a simple program the rest of the time or is it abit more complicated than that? not sure how it works.

Not far off mate, it's £25 a month.. And i work part time at tesco, but i'm mainly a freeland photographer, and i also specialise in turning black and white/sepia photos, to colour. It's a great buisness to be in, especially this time of year, as i can grab sooo many great shots with the use of autumn/winter

i funded a lot of my G40 by buying and selling stuff on ebay - searching those scrap yards for parts and swapping where possible. another mans shite is anothers gold dust.

if you do make some money doing odd jobs - put it in a tin or straight in the bank so you dont spend it on pub,fags and waste - that way you can save.

oh - and if your not sure about a job - then do what i did....learn from people doing it - i lent my mates and other people my hand, not only did i get a few quid in my pocket but i also learnt how to do jobs id need help on myself. and if you spend a few hours helping a mate - they can return the favor!!!

And thats being Unemployed not on benefits (currently) but all the money i saved over summer is dwindling in an attempt not to go into the fecking job centre and speak to those nice people, was hoping to have found something pretty quick after being made redundant but I don't appear to be employable round here.

I also now need to find somewhere permanent to live as the rents are having the house renovated, and i wont be able to stay there any more.

Most of my funding at the moment is in doing odd jobs for people on cars/houses etc. just to stop myself from eating into my account. lucky enough i dont drink often and dont smoke so most likely saving myself a few hundred a month there.

May aswell just go to the job centre bud? Extra £210 odd a month surely?

Cheers for the advise mate.. I have been working with my uncle who's a mechanic, learning stuff of him, that's why i feel quite confident with doing my own project..

Tough times buddy.. I would drag myself down the job centre, even if you don't want to.. You'd benefit a bit more if you do, unless you own a MK1 Polo, then in that case, sell it to me, to get yourself some more monies

You should join up at the jobcentre, if not for the free money, do it for the the national insurance credits.

When you are out of work, and not enrolled at the jobcentre, you are not paying N.I. contributions. When you do make the claim, the govt actually pay them for you. Read here to see why they're important...
