1.0 MPI Huge loss of power and missfire p0030

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm having a little trouble with my partners 1.0 lupo (2000) auc

Engine light came on last week and the car was missfiring and losing power

Before getting the codes read i changed the plugs leads and coil.

After that the issue was still there so i checked the air filter and all was well.

While the engine cover was off i noticed one of the air pipes was collapsed, (the small one that t's in to the larger air pipe that attaches to the airbox on the drivers side) this was causing it to tick over oddly and once i put in some new stronger pipe it seemed to tick over better, for a while then went back to how it was.

The codes were read later that day P0030 was what i got. Lambda sensor i belive.

I've owned alot of cars in my life and I've had my fair share of lambda's changed, but I've never known them to have such a drastic effect on the cars.. the lupo feels like it has about 15bhp not 50.. and the misfire is quite bad now when driving.

obviously I'm going to change the sensor, but is there anything else to look out for on these?

The injectors sound very loud, and I'm sure the tappets have seen better days could this cause power loss?

Oh yea, lastly there seems to be a plastic valve under the engine cover its clipped on just behind the injectors, its got an inlet and outlet but its not connected to anything.. what is it and what should it be connected to?

cheers guys any help would be appreciated.

checked it over today, i have a slack cambelt! thinking maybe its jumped a tooth??

anybody had this before?

Hi, I have a 2001 6n2 1.0 which is the same engine and I have the same symptoms as you. I was thinking it could be faulty coil, injectors, fuel pump or Lambda sensor. I hadn't thought to check the timing belt. My car has 80k miles on it with a new cam belt about 55k and possibly a new tensioner later than that. Let me know what you think

this is a thread i need to be watching! my partners lupo had the engine light come on last week she went to quick fit they turned the light off and quoted her about £400 to fix it, well i have changed the plugs and leads, as the code quickfit gave her was cylinder 2 misfire it wouldn't be the coil as 2 cylinders would be missing due to the wasted spark system, still had a rough idle tho and a few days ago the light came on again throwing out the same code, the car is on 75thou and judging by the unbroken factory sticker on the cambelt housing the belt has never been changed hopefully a new belt kit will cure this!

Hi,

I started my own thread but I guess i may as well post here as there seams to be more interest. Sorry to copy and paste but in my thread i wrote.

Hi,

I have a 2001 1.0 Polo 6N2 (80k miles) that's not running properly. At low RPM the engine misfires and is not smooth. It's also down on power since the problem started. An ECU error code reading from about 6 months ago said random misfires on cylinder 2 + 4. (I don't remember the exact code) The spark plugs and HT leads have been replaced and so have all filters, (air, fuel and oil) just to get the cheapest solutions out of the way but the problems still persists. I have narrowed the problems down to a fairly long list so I would appreciate some suggestions before I go spending £100 a pop on parts that don't need replaced. Fuel economy seams to be up slightly and the car runs better in the cold so i'm thinking it might be running lean.

1. Needs a new coil (+ wiring loom just in case) - A mechanic suggested this to me as I have replaced the other parts of the ignition going backwards

2. Needs new injectors - I really hope this isn't the case as they are £120 each and I would need 4. Might explain the car running lean

3. Needs a new fuel pump - Not enough fuel getting to the engine (would again explain it running lean) Hopefully this isn't the case as it's in the fuel tank and a pain to change

4. Needs new Lambda sensor - I know vw sensors are useless as I have already replaced one about 20k ago but might be the reason the ECU is not performing properly and sending the wrong mix to the engine

5. Throttle body needs cleaned - I cleaned it as much as you can without removing it but needs vagcom to reset idle throttle position if removed, which I don't have.

6. Anything anyone else might suggest.

Any thoughts that anyone has that might help me get this fixed would be much appreciated.

ash gt, you mentioned that a faulty coil would be affecting 2 cylinders so maybe thats my problem.

AUC's don't like non genuine coils

stop being cheap and it'll look after itself
