I've ripped the dash out of my car and I have now been worrying bout the legality of this :/ is there any requirements for anything? I.E does the speedo have to be in a set position or secured to a particular part of the car?

I have seen pics of road legal cars that have had the dash removed but I could really do with some help on this if anyone knows?

There needs to be a functioning speedometer by law. Dunno what the score is with regards to airbags etc on modern cars.

Steve Pitt who used to run Pitstop Developments ran around with no dashboard in his G40 with the clocks cable tied to the steering column support bracket

Judging by street legal track cars no dash shouldn't be a problem (see this one). In relation to the instrument position it shouldn't matter as long as you can see it. Keep in mind Mini's have had them in the centre and the Ford GT has the speedometer off the the side if the wheel.

Like 86C said, airbags might be a different matter although some people do swap an airbagged steering wheel for an aftermarket wheel that doesn't have a bag.

you do need the warning lights mind........ all that is required is a speedo and warning lights.

I mot'd my g40 with no dash just the speedo strapped on to the steering column

As of January 2012 airbag warning lights are an MOT fail

just take the led bulb out then lol no lights on then

They have a procedure to go through, with each car it has to be displayed on ignition and go out after x amount of time. varies with each car obviously. Failure to light up is also a fail.

I ran like this for a while, bungee cord is much better for the clocks as i found cable ties just kept falling off

I guess I'll just leave the bulb out of the air-bag holder, and I was planning on removing the air-bag and sensor and just chucking in something like a MOMO or Sparco (anything I can have quick release with really!)

Digital clocks hopefully at some point and just carpeting over the bare metal, heater gubbins are long gone, just tidying up to do now :)
