This is probably targeted at a fairly small audience, but I thought I'd share a solution to a problem I've had.

I've fitted a stage 3 subby to my mk2 and also a 1.6 engine. These engines have deeper sumps than early engines and as a result, the engine wouldnt sit in the bay. Therefore I replaced the sump and pump on the 1.6 with 1.3 items from a mk2. I found out this weekend that due to the throw of the 1.6 crank, the big ends of the pistons actually foul the oil pump housing. This requires a little bit of grinding to remove about 2-3mm. If you have a look at my build thread, you can read through this whole palava!

Thought I'd share this info so anyone using a similar set up won't have the faff i did trying to find the problem

AEA (1.6 spi). Although not likely someone will run the same spec as this, hopefully it may help someone. The info is now here for someone to find

Mine was a '98 AEE lump taken from a Skoda Felicia, but the pump arrangement was different to yours. On mine, it's just a pick up pipe in an S shape(early pre 1986 mechanical head engines used the same system but with a smaller bore) so I had to cut and shut the pipe to run the shallow sump.

Well I'm rebuilding my ABD (which is currently in the garage) as a 1.6. Or at least thats the plan.. so I expect to encounter this problem perhaps. Though being a Golf block perhaps its layed out the same as the 1.6..

bet it goes nicely now tho?!

Are you sure that the block is tall enough to accept the longer pistons? I thought the block was slightly taller on the 1.6s?

My aea is from a golf, but its the throw o the crank thats the problem. So any 1.6 using the shallower sump and pump arrangement will encounter these issues

You're going to have to change your plans, i'm afraid. That block won't take 1.6 internals.
