I`ve owned my Polo for two years and before the Polo I had a Passat Estate, I sold it because it was too expensive to run. I can only remember one single incident in the Passat of somebody else driving aggresively towards me. I`m noticing more and more whilst in the Polo that other cars try to bully me etc.

Before my Passat estate I had a white van and before that an Audi A4. Never did I have any problems, wondered if people had similar experiences? I think people see a small car and because their in something big they think "get out my way"

Yeah, it happens, if someone tries it with me, I just stop dead exactly where I am leaving them a tiny little gap to get through, or they can back up. I prefer mk2's because the bumpers are designed for bumping not crumpling, if they rub along a coner of my car, it'll hurt theirs more than mine.

Though to be fair, I love barging the 4x4 driving c***s out of the way when I'm in my transit, I look on it as karma

When you drive a small car, you're seen as small and feeble, in many cases feminine, to all the people out there with 'little-man-syndrome'.

If they were hard enough to do it outside the car they might, but not until they get the feeling of power and intimidation through their hulk-cars can they really exercise it. It becomes a penis/handbag extension, (and it's usually a german vehicle running on diesel).

It tends to backfire on them in one way or other when they try it on me, but then given that i've been driving small cars for many years i'm used to it, and used to dealing with it.

Your options are sink or swim. Or sink to their level, or swim.. It's your choice, but it's a very real problem in my experience, and one you'll have to deal with, with whatever attitude you decide to adopt.

Can sometimes upset them more though, in which case I get out and show that I'm 6ft lad, not a little old lady lol

Your right though, I had a B6 Passat estate, and no problems at all with that, but you do get some arsebandits in bigger cars thinking they own the road.

As Yeti said though, sometimes works out better if you act like you dont care. they're gonna be more concerned with they're big shiny new car rather than your 20+year old "toy car"...

It's not quite a small car story, but my dad did the best one ever many years ago when he was a postman. Hw was driving down a single track road when a brand new Range Rover came barrelling his way, straight past somewhere they could have pulled in to stop. She beeped her horn and waved him onto the verge (because LDV 400's are loads better in the mud than Range Rovers, right?). He stopped and waited nose to nose with her, and when it was clear she wasn't backing up, he got out with his bag, got a bike out the back and pedalled off

I get this too. I hate people who drive really close i usually respond with even slower driving right on the centre line so they cant pass. If they start to come past, i either accelearte as hard as i can or indicate right . The best one i had was a new jag xkr. Posh idiot came charging up behind, so close the bonnet dissapeard, trying to get me going a bit faster (Already doing 60), flicks his lights on, I slow down to 40ish he sees a gap and boots it cutting in real close. He didnt get too far though, as there was a roundabout about half mile away, i caught him up just as he was entering it, and went down the inside of him, he noticed what i was doing and trys to beat me round, but doesnt have the guts to take the roundabout that quick (i was doing over 50 when i entered the roundabout, braking heavily though), so i carved him up and got in front. He followed me for a bit after that but kept his distance. Clearly embarressed about being owned by a 20 year old 1.0l hatchback. I dont normally do that. Just what i mention at the top, but i was a bit hacked of already that day.

Came face to face with a 4x4 in my Mk4 golf not too long back, it's a 'normal' road (i.e. 1 lane each) but his lane was blocked with cars so he decided to come on to my side of the road to get round (which is correct) but not when I'm already half way down said road! (Making it my right of way, as i've travelled further) so i just stopped and flashed lights at him as if to say "PILLOCK, IT'S MY RIGHT OF WAY!!!" so then had to pull into the end of a junction which joins this road to let him past. If i actually looked hard, i would have just stopped and parked there and waited for him to move, or ram me, in which case, I'd get his reg and report him for dangerous driving or something...

You get it all the time with older cars. I have people almost pushing me along despite me doing the speed limit, they must just assume i am driving slower due to the age of my car.

Dependant on how well my day is going (or how dangerous the other driver is being) at the time i either:

1. Slow down to, say, 15mph and watch them boil until they back off

2. Drop a cog and give it full beans, leaving them behind which generally lets them no that my car CAN do over and above the speed limit should i wish (note: never on busy roads though, usually national speed limit quiet roads)

3. Let them overtake and call them a tosser, but let it go

4. Let them overtake, then chase them up their arse - see how they like it.

This is why I sometimes use a dash cam.

yes in my frontera 4x4 sport for the winter i dont tend to move

as for my polo i didnt move either esp if its my right of way ...

i just have to be places on time :p

if i do see a nice vw or old classic i will pull over though. but it is very unlikely

I hated it so bought an RX-8. Now no-one fucks with me :) But I'm always nice to smaller cars, espically if its old and well maintaned. generally i find myself pulled up along side them asking about there car or just admiring. really piss's off the audi or bmw behind me for abit till he is blue in the face so then i just boot it off and leave them for dust :)

I'm very tempted to get one for myself, rear mount it and find a way to display safe following distances.

I got seriously tailgated twice yesterday, no points for guessing the two manufacturers the cars came from. The first time was in a 30 zone and I couldn't even see the front grille of the car behind me, I was turning right in ~150 yards ahead so I just slowed way down, stopped by the junction even though nothing was coming and precoded to turn the corner as so as I could. If someone wants to follow half a car length behind me I'm going to slow down to make the gap safe.

Just got a cheapy camcorder and a suction mount, about £65 all in I think.

HD though , and the picture's fine, sounds not great but all you can hear is engine and music anywho

I find its more useful pointing rearwards, catching/deterring tailgators as I spend a LOT of time on the M25

I don't think a cam corder would be practical, you'll have to start/stop the recording each time, keep it charged and empty the memory. Personally I think that this is the best dashcam; the quality is good, has a nice wide angle lens, comes with a remote, has GPS, automatically records over older clips, works nicely in dark conditions and saves a clip automatically if it feels a jolt.

Yes it does have its flaws! No doubt. I had it as a camcorder first though lol

i have a corsa company car and you really have to drive like a cock in it to get some road presence

the zimma is nice, you can go nice and slowly and people make room for you, and on roads where only a single car can pass at a time 9/10 times the other people give way

Had this with a range rover the other night. Driving at the speed limit through a residential area he was right up my arse blinding me with his lights, soon as road opened up to a long straight after a roundabout he pulled out to overtake so I dropped it and floored it in my little mk3 and made him look a right dick

Always happens when its too narrow and even if your half way down the road they still come claiming ignorance but its clearly arrogance. Had the same thing happen a couple of times at school/college picking up my younger brother. X5's mercs and even other small cars driven by idiot mothers 'too busy to waste time with road rules' all i do is carry on till we are nose to nose, wait until the flash or shout then say to them that because my car is old the reverse gear doesnt work so they have to go forwards.

One time i did this i was trying to find a parking space and the bloke just came barrelling down the road screeching to a halt infront of me. I did the reverse gear not working thing then proceeded to drive forwards 25 yards (where he could of easily pulled in) and reverse parked in front of him. Some choice words echo'd out of his car and i wasted my mc d's milkshake on the back of his soft top beemer. He definitely deserved it though

you ever heard a standard austin mini horn matt? trust me you cannot get more girly.

Just slow down a bit and let them past. No point driving like an equal tool as you could cause a serious accident! If they are proper close a couple of flicks of the fog light or hazards for me anyway usually works and they tail off a bit.

I've started driving more defensively in general, i use less petrol, hardly need to brake and have a more pleasant journey compared to the aggy yoof i once was
