Hostility from larger cars?

Featured Replies

The speed limit is a LIMIT not a TARGET.

^^^this

I totally agree with a lot that has been said so far but the emphasis seems to be too much on doing the actual speed limit.

I dont want to do 60 in my mk2 on a country lane half the time because i don't feel safe doing so. i will therefore do 50 and sod anyone who gets stuck behind me :p Even on the motorway i'll rarely touch 70 preferring to do 62 so i can pass the lorries :)

i consider myself as an ok driver but it all comes down to me feeling safe and comfortable and relaxed. even on roads that i know very well i would never take risks. you may know the road, but you don't know the hazards!

These are two examples that spring to mind in the last couple of weeks. I was driving along a dual carriageway at 60mph, it`s maybe 10.00pm. A car pulls alongside me, I don`t look over. He then beeps the horn so I look over as I thought it may be a friend. It was a guy on his own in some kind of Dodge charger thing, left hand drive. He gives a middle finger then boots off.... WTF just happened. I was expecting a text from a friend to say oh that was me but it never came, a mate often borrows works cars. I think he must have wanted a race, very strange behaviour from a grown man. He had a private plate which I`ve remembered, it`s a small world. Maybe one day I`ll see him and I`ll ask him what his problem was

A couple of nights ago I was exiting a very large roundabout and onto a dual carriageway. There`s three lanes that go into two. I was in the middle lane doing an average speed to be coming off a roundabout at, Mini on my left. All of a sudden I`ve got a car just behind me on my right, turned out to be a slightly modded old focus estate. He beeps the horn twice then decides to O/T just as the two lanes are about to become one, he nearly made contact with my car. As soon as he was past he braked! Trying to scare me? I`ve no idea, I then pulled into the left lane as I realised he`s retarded and he booted off at about 80-90mph. I just don`t get it. Again this car will stay in my mind as it was slightly modded. I live in a fairly small city and I`ve got a good memory and his reg.

When I`m walking down the street, I don`t get people giving me hassle for no reason because they know that their face to face with me. When somebody gets behind the wheel they change, they turn into a little mincer on a power trip, they do something retarded and then run off. I`m certain that guy in the fous will mess with the wrong person one day and end up getting seriously hurt. I`m certain he would`nt have tried it on a larger car though. When I get somebody being a retard I never speed up, that`s what they want

I think round where I live there are so many old people that the speed limits are automatically 10 mph lower than the what the signs actually say. 20mph through town (signs for 30) and lucky to go over 50mph on roads that are national speed limit. I've even seen some old fucking codgers doing about 45 on the dual carriageway, even lorries were overtaking them...

The town of Diss in Norfolk, has to be one the least car friendly places to be. They have roundabouts on the only through-road. There are also traffic lights on each exit which are there so that all the old coffin dodgers (about 90% of Diss's population) can cross the road and go shopping in Morrisons. All this means is that the A140 through Diss has been turned into the most successful bottle-neck EVER! The apparent speed limit seems to vary between 10mph and 20mph on a good day. There are constant hordes of old people changing the lights to red, trapping cars on the roundabout and bringing the whole town to a standstill, so that Great Auntie Ethel can go buy some mince pies.

It wouldn't be so bad but some of them can actually drive (if you wanna call it that). IMO they deserve to be tailgated, maybe it will make them think before grabbing the car keys instead of the bus pass. They insist on going no faster than 20mph in the 30 zones and I don't think any of them can comprehend going faster than 40mph! People like that REALLY piss me off. If the road is a 60 limit, at least do 60? Obviously if someone is in something oldskool maybe with only 4 gears, then they can't help it. Its the ones in 61 plate BMW's and Audi Q7's that piss me off, no other reason to be going slow other than their own stupid inability.

Too many old people can drive if you ask me lol.

It's not just a small car thing. But I do find I'll get people tailgating me when I'm obeying speed limits through towns on country lanes. They soon disappear when I get a chance to open the taps again.

I'm in different cars all the time, so I do get to see how someone who drives similarly gets treated in various different things.

And I can confirm that people HATE you if you drive a flashy car. Particularly BMWs. For example we had a new 5 Series as a long termer earlier in the summer and nobody let me out, anywhere.

In reality though, people drive like absolute BELLENDS in this country no matter what you're in.
