GOT A PIGEON PROBLEM

Featured Replies

Was wondering if anyone knew the legality to shotting these FUC.....pigeons that think its acceptable to sit outside my window and wake me up at 5 in the morning every day?

I've got an air rifle so i can get rid of them easily enough but am i going to get in trouble with the boys in blue if some vermin lover comes along and complains.

Help would be much appriciated

Can you put up Pigeon spikes?

chuck some bird seed next door...

d.

^^^ :badgrin::lol:

First up are they wild or are they some ones prized collection of racing pigeons?

If they are wild then knock yourself out but try not to be too blatant about is as although I'm pretty sure the laws on killing vermin are quite laps, popping off shots in the middle of suburbia may be frowned upon some what.

If they do belong to someone then knock on their door and ask them politely of they could let them out later as they are disturbing your sleep, if they refuse then report them to whoever it is that deals with noise pollution ect.

I live in Army single living accomodation on camp. There definatly wild. I was just thinking on sitting ontop of the smoking shelter and knocking them off one at a time and then throwing them in the bin.

I used to do agricultural pest control and am an NSRA qualified rifle instructor, so I've got a bit of an idea on this one.

They're vermin, so technically yes, but it has to be done safely. The main concern is if you miss, or the pellet goes through the prey - where's it going to stop?

Bear in mind a 12lbft .177 has at least a quarter mile range. If you're shooting out the window - what's behind the bird? It is a firearms offence to fire on or onto someone else's property without permission, and potentially you can cause lasting harm to someone or damage to property (which is where you end up with a Policeman with an MP5 knocking on your door and get convicted of a firearms offence). If you're shooting up at your window ledge, then there's a fair chance you're going to hit your own window.

The other thing is, shooting doesn't really work unless it's just one/a pair of pigeons that are roosting there, because a different pigeon will sit there tommorrow. The other reason I avoid shooting pigeons is I don't mind killing vermin, but I don't like things to suffer (end of the day, they don't know they're vermin, they're just doing what they do). Pigeons mate for life so you can end up leaving one grieving.

A better solution in my opinion is - You can get self adhesive plastic strips that are shaped so birds can't land on them. Might be a better way of going about it. They're only a few quid form a DIY place or online.

I'm on the top floor which is about 50m high and there is no way I'm hanging out of the window by the soffit to put up a couple of pigeon spikes.

You can normally get pretty decent lengths, so you shouldn't have to lean out far. Give the ledge a quick scrub with a stiff wire brush as far as you can to give a decent surface for it to stick to before you stick it down.

Surely you would have to be very careful firing a rifle of any description on a army base? You could get mistaken for a terrorist or some shit and end up getting merked yourself

I hope that last comment was a joke? Your a trained killing machine, you shouldn't be feeling sorry for winged rats, you should be drinking their blood in a after slaughter ritual or some thing

Lets get one thing clear. I have done one operational tour of Afghanistan in the roughest condidtions i have ever lived in, i have no regret in killing the Talbian. But when it comes to killing something with feelings its hole different story haha

Writen to my management to see about getting spikes.

I was really up for doing a rambo on the pigeon arse's before before Yeti came along :disgust:

We had one In the garage last month, maybe month before. Gotta get them or get them dead or they set the alarms off at silly times in the night so we got the ol' air rifle out and killed the fucker, after trying to get him out obviously. Shovelled him into a bag and lobbed the bag on top of nextdoors van. (They're foreign deal drugs and tack weld crashed cars together to sell on.. And are probably illegal) we don't like them anyway. Needless to say the bag is still on top of that van.. It must be crawling in there by now! Haha!

Great, yeti has turned one of our national hero's gay. Chris don't listen to anymore yeti has to say or on your next tour you could end up dancing around the front line handing out daisy chains to taliban

Nah, if something needs dropping, it needs dropping. Just mention foxes to me sometime.

Plastic owl :-)

My nan has one as her bins used to get covered in Pigeon shit.

Plastic owl and no more pigeon shit.

Apparently, they use them in warehouses too to keep the pigeons out.

HTH

Hahaha. Foxes are the worst.

Don't have a care for mink either. Last lot had some propane piped into there tunnels and lit from a distance.

Just get in touch with that woman who dashed the cat in the bin.

I'm sure she will know what to do
